On this Walk With Him Wednesday, Ann of @Holy Experience has asked us to share about looking to the new year.
I've been praying about this next year and have chosen my theme for 2010.
It is ...trust and obey.
I remember teaching the little children in Bible Study Fellowship the words to this song.
Trust and obey
For there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey
I can easily sing those words. But do I really put them into practice?
I have to say ...no, not always.
I've been studying the book of Philippians recently. I look forward to the early mornings when I can open up my Bible, have my notebook and pen ready and click on Opening His Word Together.
Scott Samter is an excellent Bible teacher as he goes through the scriptures verse by verse. I've been so blessed by his teachings. BTW, he is Jill's hubby of Forever N Ever N Always. Need I say more?
Anyway, Philippians has been just what I've needed to study right now. Isn't that just like our God?
How I long for that peace; the peace of God which passeth all understanding.
As I look to 2010, my desire is to put these verses into practice. Enough worrying and experiencing anxiety! There is nothing too difficult for my God. But will I trust Him? And will I obey?
That is my goal for 2010. To trust and obey!
BTW, I'm also joining eLisa of Extravagant Grace the first week of January. She has an excellent guide that you can download to help with priorities and goals for 2010. Read all about it on my post here.
Let's get ready for 2010. I believe we can be used by God as we blog from our hearts. I also believe we can be a source of encouragement and prayer for one another.
Will you join us? And don't forget to visit Ann @ Holy Experience for Walk With Him Wednesday as you look forward to 2010.
Blessings,
That hymn was the first I memorized at age 5 almost 6. I remember exactly where I was when I learned it!
ReplyDeleteI need to trust and obey Him no matter what. Thank you for sharing.
I am reminded again today that to
ReplyDelete"come as little children" is what God want, OH! to bring us back to that reality every single day!!!!
Why does He say this? Because He knows the little children will trust and obey....simple as that.
Love your blog!!!
Hi..thanks for the visit and comment! This is an excellent post and I KNOW God led me here. Thank you - I can't wait to join in!
ReplyDeleteHi there, I still sing that hymn to my grandkids. So glad to read about your focus for 2010...something we all need to do. Praying for you today Debbie. Hugs.

On my walks(during the warm months)that is one song I sing over and over. Trust and obey is my heart's desire, now I just have to get my flesh to cooperate.
ReplyDeletelove and hugs~Tammy
You had me giggle out loud - you are so precious Debbie!
ReplyDeleteScott is so blessed by your encouraging words. I took a ridiculous amount of notes on Monday night and reread them as I edited the teaching. God was really speaking through him the last two weeks.
We are going to the book of Habakkuk next. Read ahead is his request for all of us! :)
I love you so much and adore your precious heart willing to learn more and seek His will for your life!
MUAH! Happy New Year! May God bless your socks off this year as He provides for every circumstance you laid at His feet today!
Trusting and Obeying with you - letting peace be our joy!
Jill
Ah yes, getting down to the work. Simply said, surely life changing.
ReplyDeleteI think often of the words to that hymn. Sometimes there is a long obedience. I wonder if somewhere down the line I willed myself to obedience and forgot to keep trusting.
ReplyDeleteThe passage I read at my grandmother's funeral -- very near and dear to me. I think it will be the perfect guiding verse for 2010!
ReplyDelete"Trust and obey" - what a wonderful theme! One that I need as well. Thanks for the encouragement.
ReplyDeleteTrust and Obey....spunds so simple but it is so profound!! Love your post!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAmen! You have me fired up after reading this about a 2010 to be used powerfully by our amazing God. I was just reflecing this morning on how Jesus warned us not to be burdened by anxieties. We know that worry {and a spirit of fear} is not from God, but from the enemy to try to keep our eyes off of God, so we won't be useful to His Kingdom. Here's to encouraging eachother sister... as iron sharpens iron!

Trust and Obey is a favorite hymn of mine. I remember that I used to just sing along with the rest of the congregation...words I knew by heart. And then one day I heard what I was saying and had to stop in the middle of the verse to decide whether not it was true for me. Now, when I sing that song it means something. Great words to take into a new year!
ReplyDeleteDebbie! Wonderful post! Oh, if we could just learn to TRUST and OBEY! ahhhhh!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to check out those wonderful resources. Philippians is such a WONDERFUL book too!
Hugs,
Traci
One of my favorite hymns to be sure.
ReplyDeleteMy word is gratitude. To be grateful for everything. To be a good example to my children, my husband, the world.
After talking to you, I determined to look at your post and see your thoughts regarding our conversation. I'm still finalizing my New Year's commitment, but I think I might join you for the first week of January. I may need some "encouragement" though.
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Thank you so much for sharing that, Debbie. That is also what I need to do. Blessings, sweet friend ~
ReplyDeleteI love Philippians - my favorite Epistle.
ReplyDeleteTrust and obey is a great motto for 2010 :)
Love you...
Trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey is SO right!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us. I pray for you to walk that trust and obedience with all power and surrender this year knowing GOD adores you and has you covered.
Much love!
