Choose to Count Your Blessings

Each day as you wake up, you have a choice to make. What is the first thing that comes to your mind? Are you grumbling because you're still tired, but you need to get up for an appointment or work? Or do you wake up and thank God for another day?

I purposely choose to begin my day with an attitude of gratitude. You can train your mind to focus on positive things. Now, I'm not suggesting you bury your head in the sand regarding problems and challenges. But don't lose sight of the fact that there are always good things in your life too.

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

I'm so thankful that I don't have to navigate this life on my own. Each morning, I try to spend quiet time as I read my Bible and pray. It sets the tone for my day. I cast all of my cares on the Lord and ask Him for direction. I can't do it on my own. I openly admit that.

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

So here are a few of my blessings:

  • The hummingbirds are beginning to discover the feeder on my patio. I love to sit outside and observe them.

  • Finally, having a patio area outside where I can sit in the morning. For years, the patio area behind our condo was filled with boxes of stuff we had no room to unpack. We rearranged things and now have a pleasant area to sit, even though it's kind of small.

  • We got to celebrate my husband, Greg's birthday yesterday. I had planted a rose bush in honor of Greg's mom, who died last year. I took a photo of one of the roses and had a puzzle made of it as a gift to Greg. He loved it! We spent the day doing whatever Greg wanted to do. We watched many episodes of Yukon Men on the Discovery channel. But it was his choice, his birthday! :)
  • I'm so thankful to have this time during the summer to work on my writing. I've relaunched this blog and I'm working on the edits for my No Regrets book.
  • My school offers several technology classes including Adobe InDesign and Graphics. I'm taking advantage of this free training and hope to put it to good use.
  • I've been taking some online photography classes to help improve my skills.
  • I'm so thankful to have some extra time to catch up on Chad Allen's videos to help with my writing.
  • And finally, I am so thankful that I had a challenging but very rewarding school year. I already miss each one of my students and can't wait to see them when I return in August.
So, may I challenge you to take time to count your blessings?

Blessings and love,
