In Other Words Tuesdays ~ Places of Triumph

On this "In Other Words Tuesday" our host is Kathryn of Expectant Hearts. She chose the following quote for today:

This quote was a bit challenging for me to write about at first. You see, earthly cares can easily weigh me down ...if I'm not careful.

I can get so caught up in those sufferings, trials, defeats and disappointments. I then attempt to deal with them in my own strength but ...I soon grow weary.

I pray to the Lord and ask for relief. And then He reminds me that I am not alone. I have His presence within me. I have all I need to live this present life ...in Him.

But I need to abide and trust Him day by day and moment by moment. This is a lesson I'm learning right now.

The author of this quote, Hannah Whitall Smith lived in the 1800's. She was a woman acquainted with sorrow, sufferings and disappointments in this life. And yet she wrote a book entitled "The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life".

It helps me to remember that I'm just passing through, this isn't my permanent home. When I yield every part of my life to the Lord and trust Him ...He changes my perspective.

I want my soul (mind, will and emotions) to be taken to high places of triumph instead of discouragement and defeat.

So I chose to trust the Lord and abide in Him. It makes all the difference and in the process He gives me ...His peace.

  1. That is a great quote Debbie. It is hard to think about trials as a blessing when you're in the midst of them.

    Have a blessed Tuesday. :o)

  2. Debbie - finding joy in our sufferings is to literally lay it all down and truly walk NOT my will BUT thy will. It is when we are not looking for the trial to be lifted and saying whatever it is you have to teach me through this challenge please show me Lord.

It is not the easy road to walk so close to Him. It is the road less traveled for a reason. Most want to avoid the cross and receive His glory. He says those who don't go through the cross like me don't know me.

It is in our sufferings that we are closest to Christ!

Laying it down is picking up His strength, joy, hope, peace, grace, mercy, rest and love!

Praying His peace and rest over you this morning!
    Love,
    Jill

  3. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

  5. Debbie, this was really good and so very true. I have been there so many times as well. I think some times we just react (or I do anyway) when something is wrong and begin doing whatever it is I think I need to. How much better off I am when I turn FIRST to Him, and then begin....Have a great day! Blessings to you, Debbie

  8. "It helps me to remember that I'm just passing through, this isn't my permanent home." I need to be reminded of this truth more often.

Thank you for sharing where the quote originated from. I'll have to read the book.

  9. Hi dear one, Loved this quote and yes we do need to continually look heavenward and count the cost as blessings. His refining fire isn't always easy but the final result is pure gold. I pray you are doing well-and resting in His arms.

  10. Amen! Hurts for just a while, but all will be forgotten once we experience his glory.

  11. Hi Debbie...that is quite a quote...it would be difficult to accept if we didn't know that it is true. Being refined by the fires of life aren't fun or easy, but they are for God's purposes, not our own. For me, I have to constantly battle the temptation to think that its all about me...when talking with my granddaughter, I can tell that she's all about herself...that's normal for a child, but not for an adult...as Paul says in 1 Cor. 13, we must give up childish things, and grow...we grow by stetching, and sometimes it hurts. Thanks so much for sharing this quote and your own heart...I always love visiting your blog, and am always inspired. God bless!

  12. A change in perspective is definitely what we need. It's too easy to get bogged down with the negative, we need to board the right chariot of choice. Have a good one today!

  15. "He gives me HIS peace". it boils down to that doesn't it? I was at a Silent Retreat this weekend and one of the things God impressed upon me was to "be at peace with your life." It IS hard in the midst of trials..
    I really enjoyed your post.
