What Would Be Your Biggest Regret If This Was the Last Day of your Life?

It may be a difficult question to ask.  But I believe it's an important question to ask.

What would be your biggest regret if this was the last day of your life?

Too many people get to the last day of their life unexpectedly.

  • A fatal car accident
  • An unexpected diagnosis with no cure
  • A sudden heart attack without warning
Most people seem to think there's plenty of time.

Time to deal with:

  • Issues you've been suppressing for years
  • Bitterness and rage against perceived injustice done to you
  • Relationships that need healing
  • Unfulfilled dreams you've kept locked inside
  • Anxiety over loved ones
  • Words that need to be spoken
The reality is we don't know the exact day and hour of our death. It's a subject most people don't want to think about.  But of one thing I am sure.  Death will happen to each one of us one day.

I'm in the process of writing an e-book on this topic of death.  I believe there are many lessons we can learn from the dying about living life in the now.  I worked as a cardiovascular nurse specialist for 25 years.  I've walked alongside of hundreds of patients and their families as they were dealing with life and death.  I kept journals filled with many of the stories of people who died.  Believe me when I say ...the dying can teach us lessons.

But today I'd like to ask you to consider this one question.

What would be your biggest regret if this was the last day of your life?

I'd love to read your responses.

Blessings and love,

  1. To not forgive someone or forget to forgive someone and pray about it would be it.

  3. Wow....that's such a hard question. All my relationships with family and friends is good. I think my greatest regret right now is not taking better care of myself physically. But it's almost a New Year......a chance for change.

  5. That I have fallen so short of accomplishing anything in my life. I've let fears, cares, worries, doubts, and laziness get in the way.

  6. Wasted time or opportunities... I am increasingly aware that each day is precious, and going into 2013, my desire to view each new day as God's gift, is more firm than ever before. I can't wait to see what this year holds.

    Big hugs!

  7. I think that my biggest regret would be if I would not follow the dream the Lord has given me. I need to step out of my own shadow and let Him give me the confidence that I can do all thing through Him.

  8. WOW! Debbie, that is a tough one for sure but certainly thought provoking. A good way to end one year and start a new one by pondering such a question. Thanks!

  9. I'm not sure I could answer that without much contemplation. Off the top of my head, I think my biggest regret right now would be not knowing how much I was loved. It changes how you live your life, when you truly understand this truth.

  10. Hi Debbie,

A hard question, but one I have often asked myself. My biggest regret would be feeling that I haven't reached out and helped those in need enough, or shared the love of Christ to those who don't have Him in their hearts...

Blessings and hugs for the New Year; good luck on your book!

  11. I suppose one of my greatest regrets would be the fact that I wasted so much time in my youth not studying and understanding the Word of God. Certainly, I was a Christian, but I spent a lot of years not consulting the Word in regard to faith and practice.

I have a few more regrets, but I don't allow myself to linger there very long.

I want to live more intentionally this year . . . as Sassy says, "with the end in mind."

  12. Oh, Debbie, this is a difficult question for me to answer; I certainly have regrets, but I try not to dwell on them and move forward. But I think I would regret it if those I love do not know I love them; that I haven't told them how much they mean to me.

I am looking forward to your e-book!
