Thoughts on Delight

Bonnie of Faith Barista asked us to share our thoughts on the word "delight".

Two things come to my mind when I think of the word delight:
  • Psalm 37
  • Children

Psalm 37 has been a source of comfort to me over the years. Trust, delight, commit, be still, do not fear are interwoven throughout this particular Psalm.  During times of turmoil and difficulty, I intentionally chose to trust His Word.  And I found that God is indeed trustworthy.

Children are a gift from God.  However, due to fertility issues I was unable to have children.  This was a bitter disappointment to me as I always envisioned my life as a mom.  But God had a plan for my life and how thankful I am that it eventually involved children.

In the midst of very trying circumstances, the Lord brought me to a job where I get to spend eight hours a day with little ones.
AZ Republic Photo of me and children from Bible study
I delight ...in seeing the children's sweet faces.
I delight ...in listening to the children as they share stories with me.
I delight ...in having the opportunity to be a light.
I delight ...to love each one of the children.
I delight ...to pray for each child.

What does the word "delight" mean to you?

Blessings and love,

Note: The photo of me with the children was taken for an article published in the Arizona Republic on women with fertility issues and how they dealt with it.  These are not the children I work with in our school today.  Permission was granted by the parents of the children pictured here.

  2. Beautiful post. I feel the same way about children as you do. I only had 1 child but had to stop because of the Fragile X. But God stepped in and filled the void in my heart.

  6. What a sweet entry and I do love that picture!

It is amazing the paths our lives often take when we truly had no idea we'd ever walk this path.

Blessings Debbie and I know you are such a blessing to the children you work with everyday.

  8. Oh, Debbie,
How wonderful that God led me to your post this evening! I've been doing a search in God's Word to find places where the Lord speaks about "delight" AND I've been watching for ways each new day where God shows me delight! It has been so fun! There are many places in His Word that speak of delight....Here's one of my favorites: "He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters...He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me." ---Psalm 18:16-19 Isn't that GREAT!....He rescued us because He delighted in us! :)

  9. Debbie,
I remember the day that pic. was made - the children have grown older, you and I, I think we look about the same. LOL I know you love the children, and I can see that they love you right back. I think you get to experience God's pleasure in you as you work with these little ones, but only eternity will tell the lasting impact you may have on their lives, as well as the teachers you are around daily. For so many reasons, I believe you are where you are for God's purpose in your life, and praise God, you are not wasting your time feeling sorry for yourself or wondering what might have been "if only."

  10. The Psalms have always been a great source of encouragement to me.

I love that photograph of you and the children (now I know the story behind the photograph :)). I know you would have been a great mom, but like you said, God placed you now with the precious children at the private school you work at.

    Love & peace,

  11. Debbie, I was just reminded of my dear sweet friend, Dodee. She was never able to have her own children, but the Lord promised her in her early 50's that she would have many "daughters".....and at the age of 98 it was such a testimony of God's faithfulness in Dodee's life to see the many, many daughters that God gave to her. Spiritual daughters...young women that considered her "Mom", as Dodee ministered His love to us. You see, I was one of Dodee's daughters. Since my own Mom lives over 3,000 miles away and I don't see her very often, Dodee became a spritual Mom to me many years ago. Dodee lived to be 98 and she was a blessing to each one of us whom she called her daughter. :) I remember many tea times, many Bible Studies at Dodee's home, many fun outings, out to lunch, etc., etc. :)
