I love to watch hummingbirds! The speed of their wings is so fast. I read on Hummingbird Facts that their wings move about 80 times a second with a normal flight. But when courting a potential mate, this speed increases up to 200 times a second. I'd say that's a whole lot of showing off, if you ask me. LOL.
So, what do hummingbirds have to do with me?
Well, I had two weeks off work for Christmas. And I feel as though the time has flown by so fast. I can't believe it's already time to go back tomorrow!
I had to take an unexpected overnight plane trip back east. It ended up being a wonderful opportunity and I got to meet some very awesome people. I now have another new friend named Jill!
After a very tiring day, I was seated in the middle seat on the return flight. On my right was a woman who had been visiting her parents for Christmas. On my left was a twenty something gal who had been visiting her mom.
Despite a delayed flight and a very loud crying baby in the seat in front of us, the time went by so fast once we started talking. We discovered that all three of us were Christians. We were each at a different place in our journey. But we were able to encourage one another and agreed to pray for each other.
Isn't that so like our God? I know He placed us in those seats. It was no accident.
I got to spend some time on Saturday with my friend Linda. She's a third grade teacher at the school where I'm working. And she's also the pastor's wife of the church I'm attending.
This is Linda and her husband Pastor George. Their whole family was visiting for Christmas and so I took a few family photos for them.
So happy new year to all of you! And don't forget that God is sovereign and in control.
Blessings and love,

Happy New Year to you and Greg! With Love, Amy
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by hummingbirds as well. Such an awesome creation!
I hope your two week break was a good, rest-filled, and encouraging time for you! May you be blessed as you head back to work tomorrow!
Lord, please bless Debbie this year. Protect her, guide her, encourage her. Show her how much you love her and let her feel your presence. Give her discernment. Surprise her with how close and awesome and real you are. Encourage her right where she needs it, Father. Thank you for Debbie, her blog, and her sweet spirit. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen
Love,
Kate :)
Happy New Year to you too Debbie! I can't wait to see what God has in store for you and Greg in 2011!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Jill
Happy New Year sister Debbie! Your story reminds me when I went for jury duty and all of a sudden, 4 of us seating right next to each other got so excited to know we were all Christians. The lady there had to say "shhh..." because sometimes we got louder talking about the Lord. Whew...Our mouths were probably busy like that of the hummingbird's wings! LOL.
ReplyDeleteMay your year be filled with His awesome blessings. Beautiful pictures and may the Lord protect you and guide you.
Happy New Year dear Debbie--
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great plane ride--I love the way God works in situations like that.
Looking forward to 2011 with you!

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and Greg my friend! Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI communicated with you via Email about the plane friends -- divine hook-ups! :) GOD is so good!
Love you.
What you share on this post is just so like God - you never expect to meet two new friends on the plane, and yet you do! And instead of being weighed down by how quickly the days have gone by, you are given a fresh gift from heaven. An encouragement, a sign, that He's with you in your in between seasons.
ReplyDeleteThanking God for your friendship, dear Debbie...
Love
Lidj
Loved this post -- it is so cheerful. I love how God places us in situations (like with your seatmates on the plane) to encourage us, and our neighbors! Thanks for sharing your joys. I'm glad you had a good vacation! Happy New Year Debbie!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Joan
I love hummingbirds and the facts you shared...I love the fact flapping became more rapid with showing off...may our hearts beat more for Christ in the same way.
ReplyDeleteYea! for all God is doing in your life and for your trip and new friends...God is good all the time.
Back to school for us also today!
I also love hummingbirds...a few years ago I read a neat book about a photographer who was losing his eyesight to diabetes and how a hummingbird changed his outlook on life...here's a link to the book if you're interested

ReplyDeleteDebbie, I'm another hummingbird lover. And interestingly, MiPa's Monologues today also references hummingbirds. Great minds and all that ... :) Glad you got to enjoy a break from work during the holidays. God bless you - Marsha y.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad for this trip! I know that those you met were all part of His plan, and it's such a joy to find like minds and hearts along the way!

ReplyDeleteI have hummingbird feeders in the back yard - love to watch them However, those little critters can be aggressive! And if one little hummer comes in on another's territory, watch out.
ReplyDeleteI know your trip was wonderful - liked reading about it. And the pics. of Linda and Pastor George are really quite good.
