Birthday Tribute to My Mom

It would have been my mom's birthday today.  However, a little over five years ago she died.

This photo was one of my dad's favorite pictures of her.  Dad loves Marilyn Monroe and we always thought my mom looked like her in this photo.  What do you think?  Maybe just a little?

As a teenager from Brooklyn, NY Mom and her friends went to Sheepshead Bay to rent horses. I think my mom and dad's first date was horseback riding.  Later, when she and my dad moved to Florida she had the opportunity to take lessons.  She loved to jump and often lingered behind so she could help groom the horses.

My mom could never just sit and watch TV. She'd always have something in her hands to do.  Needlepoint, knitting, sewing ...she loved it.  Unfortunately, I didn't inherit that gene from her.

But I found a few momentos from her.

Mom prayed that one day she'd be a grandma.  Finally in 1985, my brother Steve and his wife Barb were pregnant.  My mom was so excited.

Here she is with grandchildren Katie and Kristin.

My mom never got to meet Kevin Cummings.  He and Kristin will be married in September.  I know my mom would have loved to witness this wedding.

But I'm so thankful that my mom was able to celebrate her 75th and last birthday in Phoenix with me.

How thankful I am that she was a Christian.  I'm looking forward to the day when I will see her again in heaven.

In the meantime ...happy birthday Mom!

Love,

  2. Good Morning Debbie Sweetie...
You beautiful Moma does look like Marilyn in that picture. She was so beautiful. What cherished memories you have.

I love the picture of her horseback riding. Free like the wind. She looks so at peace with herself.

The photo with the grandkids is just precious, and you know I like to believe the know about our miracles before they happen, so I am quite sure she is rejoicing over Kristin and Kevin. She may have even had a hand in their meeting. Who knows right?

Happy Birthday to your sweet Moma in Heaven today. She is rejoicing with my sweet Niece, Amy who will be celebrating her 34th birthday (her 1st birthday in heaven). It is a hard day today.

    Many hugs sweetie...Sherry

  3. What a beautiful mother you had. You definitely inherited her good looks. She does look a little like Marilyn. I remember the man who led our singing back in 1958 used to tell me he thought I looked like Marilyn. I really liked that guy. LOL
What a wonderful assurance you will see her again one day. I am so looking forward to seeing my dear mother again.
    Hugs & blessings,

  27. Dear Debbie,
    I'm falling behind.
    Summer in Norway is busy.
I see that your mother was a true beauty, inside and out.
On the first picture she looks a lot like Marilyn Monroe.
(Did you know that the biographers claim that the father of Marylin Monroe was Norwegian, actually not far from our town. That's why there is a sculpture of Miss MM on the Quay here.)

Your mother is so good looking even in grown age. I can well understand that you are missing her.

My mother was 85 July 2nd, and we celebrated together here in Haugesund.
Though we do not live in the same town, we telephone each other every day.

Even though you miss your Mom and no one can replace her, You are rich to have had her.
(That's how I think about my Dad. If I didn't love him so highly, I wouldn't miss him so much.)

I hope the days mellows the sorrow, and that we both may be allowed to count the happy and blessed hours and years we shared.

Actually, there is much healing in counting blessings.
Those words aren't shallow, but brought forward from people who have been tried, and found the God is there, right by our side, evn through our darkest moments.

I am thinking of you and praying just now.
    Hugs from Felisol
