It Is Well With My Soul

It's Then Sings My Soul Saturday when I link up with Amy of Signs, Miracles and Wonders.

This week my focus has been on God as my Peace or Shalom.
True peace isn't the absence of problems.
Peace can only come through an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ.

I choose the song "It Is Well With My Soul".
Bill Gaither begins this video by sharing the story behind this song that was written so many years ago.
Horatio Stafford was still able to say the words "it is well with my soul" despite losing so much.

Is it well with your soul?

Blessings and love,

  2. Debbie:

This is one of my favorite songs, and I think partly because of the story, and knowing how even with such deep sorrow and loss he could say.. 'it is well with my soul'.

Thanks for posting this and for the reminder of WHY it is well with our souls.

    Love you sister,

    Sonja

  4. Oh, my, Debbie, I was just thinking about this song as I read a friend's blog; she has suffered a great loss and this song came to mind as I prayed for her to have peace and comfort. I love this song, and its story is a powerful testimony to God's healing heart.

It is also a wonderful testimony to your faith as you settle into your new home. Thank you for sharing this, Debbie.

    Blessings,

  6. Hi Debbie,

I love this song. The story behind is very encouraging. It is very touching that Horatio Stafford was still able to say the words "it is well with my soul" despite losing so much. This is such a comfort and blessed assurance that no matter what happens to us, it is well with our soul, because of our Lord's saving grace. I need to be reminded of this today. Thanks for sharing with us. Take care and have a very blessed weekend.

    Warm regards,
    Nancie

  10. My all-time favorite old hymn.

It was seared into my heart as a young adult. A pastor from our church was dying of cancer, leaving behind his lovely wife and two small children. He sat up at the piano and played it and sang it. Then they played it at his funeral. I've loved it ever since.

Bless you, dear friend, as you hang on to God's peace during a strange season.

    Love,
    Sandy

  11. This song has always been one of my favorites. I've been singing it this week to remind that it IS well. Kutless has a version of it on their latest album that is different but really good.

  16. Oh...so love this song. We sang it at my father-in-law's funeral...with hands lifted up. The story behind it always go through my mind and I think...how can I ever complain? I have sung this song over and over again when I was down...so blessed.
Oh, I hope you can stop by my blog and read my latest post...then you will understand this...I hope God gives you a frog in your new place...one that answers a desire of your heart.

  21. Last week, The pastor on my phone told me the same thing: Shalom is true peace. It doesn't mean the absence of conflict, he said. Rather, it is ... peace.

Oh how you've blessed me with this sweet confirmation of Truth! Thank you, THANK YOU!!!
