ReplyDeleteI love this song. The story behind is very encouraging. It is very touching that Horatio Stafford was still able to say the words "it is well with my soul" despite losing so much. This is such a comfort and blessed assurance that no matter what happens to us, it is well with our soul, because of our Lord's saving grace. I need to be reminded of this today. I LOVE this hymn and the story behind it just makes it all the more meaningful....
My all-time favorite old hymn.
ReplyDeleteIt was seared into my heart as a young adult. A pastor from our church was dying of cancer, leaving behind his lovely wife and two small children. He sat up at the piano and played it and sang it. Then they played it at his funeral. I've loved it ever since.

ReplyDeleteOh...so love this song. We sang it at my father-in-law's funeral...with hands lifted up. The story behind it always go through my mind and I think...how can I ever complain? I have sung this song over and over again when I was down...so blessed.
