In Other Words Tuesdays

This is my first time to host "In Other Words Tuesdays". It's a great way to get a variety of opinions on a quote for the week. I love to visit all of the participating blogs to read their take on our weekly quote.

Maybe this week we might have a few new blogs participate. All you have to do is write a post and link below.

Here's the quote I chose for this week:

Do you ever stop and listen to the messages you say to yourself every day?

  • I'm not talented.
  • I can't speak in front of people.
  • I can't help it. I just have a short fuse.
  • I'm not pretty.
  • I'm fat or ...I'm skinny.
  • I'm not athletic.
  • I'm just not an exerciser.
  • I'm just not good with people.
  • I hate the way I look in jeans.

How many lies do we tell ourselves? What we continously say to ourselves often determines how we feel.

If you keep telling yourself that you're not athletic or you're not an exerciser ...you probably will avoid most physical activities.

If you don't like the way you look ...you may avoid interacting with others.

If you believe you can't speak well ...you will avoid public speaking.

But what would happen if ...you stopped listening to the lies and started filling your head with Truth?

Truth like:

  • "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
  • "I am God's child." John 1:12
  • "I have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind." 2Timothy 1:7
  • "I am a citizen of Heaven." Philippians 3:20
  • "I am born of God, and the evil one cannot touch me." 1 John 5:18
  • "I am confident that God will complete the good work He started in me." Philippians 3:20

If you took Truth like this and meditated on it, would it change how you felt? Would it change how you act?

When I think on these Truths it changes my perspective.

After all, it's not about me. It's about Christ in me.

And nothing is impossible for Him.

  1. Debbie you are so right and we are so on the same page in this message. This is a lot of what I'm writing in part 2 of negative talk.

I've missed coming by. I so appreciate your heart and your love. I'm going to read some more of your post. You are such a blessing.

    Love you.

  2. Debbie,

This is so true...I tell married couples who are struggling to speak "life" into their marriage...not death. In other words...speak Jesus!

I can't wait to hear if Steve got to speak to my guys ... wouldn't that just be a God moment! Love ya!

  3. Thanks Debbie for being our hostess this week!

Great quote, and I love your thoughts on it.

I'm so guilty of not mediating on God's truths more, especially when it comes to thoughts about myself.

I needed this reminder for sure!

    Blessings to you♥

  4. This is so full of truth! Thanks for sharing. It is easy to listen to those other voices. I wrote an article on this one time for a teen girl's magazine. Reading this reminded me of that article and I need to pull it out and try to submit it. Anyway, you are so right as well as this quote being so true.

  5. Hi Debbie! Inspiring post!

I have to confess, I DO avoid public speaking because it's a fear of mine, but there have been specific times when the Holy Spirit moved me to speak (or sing) and I couldn't deny His tug on my heart. That's not to say I didn't tremble before the crowd, but He enabled me, which really put teeth to "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

    Love & hugs,
    Vicki

  8. Self-talk is very important. We need to exercise it just like our bodies. We need to feed it good things. We need to use it otherwise it will get lazy. The more we work on it and care for it the better it will be. And you're right - all this has to come from a place of truth otherwise it won't last ;)

  15. Debbie you are absolutely correct. Negative talk is not from God. As Christians we must speak life and be an encourager to others. Thanks for a great post and for hosting IOW today.

  20. This is so true. People need to learn this early in life. The more years you tell yourself these things, the harder it is to change. I just realized I said one of those negative things. I must think more positive.
    Hugs,
    Charlotte

  21. I totally agree^-^ (After all, it's not about me. It's about Christ in me. And nothing is impossible for Him)
But before I arrived at that state of mind, I was in constant battle with the demons on my head... I can't even remember how I was able to surpass it, but it came to me like lightning and after that, I felt totally free! I could say it was a pure grace... and I was humbled to receive such gift:))
Now, I know what it means when they say: He is the TRUTH, the WAY and the LIFE...
