- Walking is the simplest postive change people can make to effectively improve their heart health.
- Walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity.
Sounds good so far, doesn't it?
And the research also shows that walking for only 30 minutes a day can bring the following benefits:
- Reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
- Lowers blood pressure
- Reduces high cholesterol
- Reduces body fat and helps control body weight
- Enhances mental well being
- Increases bone density, hence helping to prevent osteoporosis
- Reduces the risk of cancer
- Reduces the risk of diabetes
How many things can you do in only 30 minutes that will bring about ALL of these benefits?
I don't know about you but I'm becoming more aware of the cost of health insurance and health care costs as I get older. If walking 30 minutes a day can help so much, I'm all for it.
Making this one lifestyle choice has so many benefits. And think of the time you can be prayer walking, listening to music, and over time ...feeling more energetic!
Get out there and as Nike says "Just Do It".
You can find lots of resources on a website the American Heart Association has established for the start walking program. It includes online community support, videos, a personalized walking plan and much more. Check it out!
And by the way, don't forget to stop over at Sandy's God Speaks Today to read her Fitness Friday post. Sandy's topic this week is "10 Commandments of Optimum Fitness".
Walking is my favorite cardio exercise for sure. I'd do it every day if the weather allowed.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Debbie and I pray you are feeling better soon.
Sandy
Walking is something I want to get in the habit of doing.
ReplyDeleteThis is where I get mad at myself. It's such a simple thing to do with wonderful benefits but I often just don't make the time to do it. I let the urgency of the everyday stuff get in my way and it really is unwise. If the doctor told me to take a 30 minute nap each day for health I'd have no problem finding the time! ack! Even doing three brisk 10 minute walks has a lot of benefit so there's no excuse at all.
ReplyDeleteThe benefits of walking are amazing! Walking and water. Those two things alone are so good for ya! How do you feel today? Praying you're on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I am feeling better each day. I'm back to work so that says something. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. I really appreciate it.:)
ReplyDeleteKeep walking Debbie, although you don't need it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not up to 30 minutes yet.. but that is a goal of mine! I'm up to 20 minutes... which is amazing when you think just a few months ago I couldn't walk 50 feet! WOO HOO! Thank you for the encouragement! Blessings...
ReplyDeleteWonderful information sweetie, I love to walk.
ReplyDeleteWell I just came back from walking and I feel energized. I do believe walking is the best for everything. You didn't mention diabetes but a consistent walking program helped me to get off insulin, talk about saving money as well as the health benifits.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your faithfulness,
Blessings,

I think I'm gonna print this post off and give it to my Mama. It sounds perfect for her!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your wisdom :)
Blessings,
Kate :)
I love going on a good walk with my husband pulling my kids in a wagon. To me there is nothing that clears my mind and refreshes me more than this!
ReplyDeleteGreat post - and I too will start leaving your link on my posts.
Hi Debbie -- how are you? You know that I'm a walking nut :) I loved this post! Keep writing! Keep walking. I will visit that link you supplied also.
ReplyDeleteLove you.
I recently paid for a walking membership at a fitness place near me and meet a friend there every day to walk for an hour. The only way to fit it in is to leave work and go back all sweaty :-( but I am much more likely to get it done when I know someone is waiting for me. Good post, thanks for the encouragement.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you keep at doing what you are doing. My intentions are there, but I still find some reason (or not) to put off that walk. But when I see your post, I have a new resolve to get up and put on those shoes I bought last year when I vowed to start walking. OK......here I go again.
