Keeping Eternity in Mind

The eternal perspective has been on my mind lately.  I try to keep this focus throughout my day.  I find that it helps me when unexpected challenges come along.

I find myself asking:

  • Has this come about because of the consequences of my choices?
  • Is it something that will help me to grow?
  • Will it be used to help someone else?
This morning I was reading from His Princess: Love Letters From Your King by Sheri Rose Shepherd. I received this little book several years ago from my blogging friend Jill.

I hope you will be encouraged as you read this love letter.

Did you know that I have prepared a home for you in heaven?  It is more beautiful than you can ever imagine.  Your eyes have not seen nor have your ears heard the majestic beauty that awaits you.  But for now, my chosen one, I need you to learn to see your life with an eternal perspective.  When you cross over into heaven, you won't be able to bring anything from your home here on earth.  You're only here to bring forth My life-changing news of salvation.  Don't collect things; collect people.  I have called you to bring others to Me.  Remember, no one will grow closer to Me because of what you have.  Tell them how much I love them.  They need to know about My amazing plans for their lives and about the eternal kingdom that awaits them, too.
Love,
Your King and your Eternity Builder

You can sign up to receive these love letters on Sheri Rose Shepherd's website.

Do you have an eternal perspective or are you more focused on the here and now of life?

Blessings and love,

  1. Thank you for those beautiful promises that do not return empty. As we all go through different degrees of trials, only His Word truly comforts and reassures and always gives us that "hope" that never perishes and makes us have something to look forward to. I am blessed by your encouragement especially this early morning. I need it in ways you will never know. Have a great weekend sister Debbie. My 3rd brother from Denmark and his family is coming today for a couple of weeks visit! For some reason, they remind me of you because of where they live. :)

  2. This love letter is so beautiful, and well said. I have been thinking a lot about heaven these past years... and have actually met people who have been there. Amazing but true.

Thank you for the thoughts you have shared here today.

  4. I really enjoyed this devotional. The sentence, "don't collect things, collect people." just jumped out at me. Is that true or what? How I wished more people could think about this. Enjoy your week-end!

  7. Hi Debbie,
These are the same type of questions I ask myself, especially when I'm going through something I'd prefer not to.

What is God showing me/teaching me in this?
Is this preparing me for something in the future?
And of course, is this a consequence of my own choices?

What a different and important perspective this last question gives me. And then to be able to see God's love and comfort despite what I've brought on myself.

    God bless,
    Laura

  9. I belive it was Stephen Covey who listed among his growth principles, "Begin with the end in mind". What a fabulous way to consider eternity too. If I keep THAT destination in mind, then making today's choices ought to be much easier.
