True Peace

If you asked most people what they would love to have, many would say ...peace.

As I gaze at this photo, I could just imagine my husband and me sitting in those lounge chairs having a very peaceful and relaxing time.

Tami of The Next Step chose a quote about peace for this week's "In Other Words Tuesday":
“True peace comes from embracing what is, not from ceaseless striving to change everything around me to make my life more safe, secure, comfortable.”  Dan Meadows in the Mosaic Bible

As I read that quote, I thought about how the world seems to describe peace:
  • An end to all wars
  • No crime
  • Freedom from oppression
Realistically, this is most unlikely to occur in the world in which we live.

Security, harmony and calm might be another description of peace. Taking a vacation to a place like the one in the photo above might be enjoyable for a time.  But it eventually ends and we go back to our life once again.

I've found that the only way to have real peace is ...in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Only He can provide us with peace with God (spiritual peace) when we accept Him as our Savior.

Once I received this GIFT, I have His abiding peace to get me through many challenging days.

Instead of ceaseless striving to change and control everything around me, I can REST in Him.

How do I do this?
  • I Pray about everything.
  • I'm learning to trust God and His ways.
  • I'm abiding in Him each and every day.
No matter what storms are going on around me, I can remain calm because I place my trust in God.  He is sovereign over all.  Nothing happens to me that isn't filtered through His hands of love.  I learn lessons through the hard times and cling to Him more closely.

I embrace what is and that is ...Jesus!

  1. So true! True peace is only found through Christ. All other peace is fleeting and conditional. It happens because of our circumstances. But with Jesus, we can have peace even the the strongest of storms!

    Blessings!

  2. Dear Debbie,
I so love it when you speak from the bottom of your heart about peace, joy and faith, because it is a "proven genuineness of your faith": 1Peter 1: 7 "These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
Your testimony is so valuable, because it is a result of a proven faith. It lightens up midst in the darkness. That is the true peace of a saved soul.
You are living what you are preaching.
    I thank you for that.
And I send a warm hug back to you. You have birthday these days, don't you?

  4. Dear friend these words from your heart both encourage and inspire. I so appreciate how willing you are to be transparent so that others may know the love of Jesus, our Savior...

Your life is an open book of your willingness to live out your faith in Jesus with the ups and the downs and how He is able to get you through it all.
    That's peace..

    Hugs to you today...

  5. That is what it's all about, trusting in the Lord. We have our part to play as I wrote about. Its a small part compared to what we get in return, God's perfect peace. You can't beat that!

  6. That picture is shouting "serenity" but is it? It's not realistic in this world like what you said. Peace from Jesus is having His strength, His assurance that no matter what comes our way, He is there never leaving us nor forsaking us. I find true peace and comfort only from His faithful and true promises. I'm grateful He found me amidst the chaos of life and always comforted me in my toughest battles, always reminding me of a better place to come.

Then again, if He made that beautiful place in that pic, I can't imagine what He's making for eternity. Blessings to you sister.

  8. Around here we often say "it is what it is...and God already knew it." After reading this I may change the saying to "it is what it is...it's Jesus." Thanks for distilling the quote into something so concise.

  9. Amen, sister! Jesus is the source of all peace. I'm not sure why, but your post reminds me of Isaiah 30:15, ". . . In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength . . ." Doesn't that instill the peacefulness of the beach scene? God is good.

  10. His peace and trust go hand-in-hand and being in a personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ is the true meaning of peace. That picture sure looks inviting though doesn't it?!
Thanks for always sharing your precious heart, Debbie.

  12. The amazing thing about God's peace is that it is always available - any place, anytime. Sometimes I think, "how can I remain calm in the midst of such turmoil?" Truth is, I can't. But God is greater than my biggest fear, my greatest concern. I would hate to live in this world without the peace of Jesus Christ our Savior.
