Go Pink For a Cause

I'm joining other bloggers to paint the world Pink For A Day.  It's called Project Pink and the goal is to raise awareness for a nasty disease called breast cancer.  After all, October is the pink month.  So I'm linking up with The Artsy Girl Connection today.

I lost a dear friend to breast cancer.  Her name is Maria and we were good friends through high school.  We lost touch for a number of years but were brought back together at a specific time that I believe was God ordained.  She was in the process of going through tests to determine the cause of a lump in her groin.

Hmm ...I'm even wearing PINK!
I was so thankful for the time I got to spend with her after she had moved back to our hometown of Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY.  We had several days of visiting our favorite spots and reliving fun memories.

We even drove over to our favorite beach to sit and watch the waves, smell the salt air and hear the sound of the surf.  We laughed and laughed on that special day.

Maria had the opportunity to come and visit me in Phoenix, Arizona too.  We went for brunch at T. Cook's in the Royal Palms Hotel.  We went to church together.

Maria was by my side when I got the dreaded phone call that my mom had died.  She comforted me that day.  Little did we know that Maria would be gone a little over a year later.

I have other close friends (Robyn, Lorraine, Lois) and my Aunt Ruth who have dealt with breast cancer.

My mother-in-love also dealt with breast cancer when my husband Greg was only in his early twenties.  This impacted him so much as he felt he needed to be able to provide for his younger sisters in case his mother didn't survive.  Well, thankfully she did survive and thrive and is now in her 80's.

However, I look forward to the day when a cure is discovered.

  2. I'm so glad you got to spend time with your friend before she passed - There is nothing more precious than time in this world :) Soppy as that sounds!

I can relate to this post tenfold, The reason I am back in England is that the doctor suspects that my mum has cancer.. (I'd prefer you didn't mention this on my blog family members may see and I think she'd prefer to keep it quiet before she knows everything for sure.)

  3. A touching tribute Debbie! Life has so many surprising twists and turns. I'm so grateful for a great big God who has each one of us in the palm of his hand. Thinkin' along pink with you...
