Count Your Everyday Blessings

Count your everyday blessings!  I've discovered that is the best way to live life and give praise to God.

It's a new school year and so it starts all over again.  I was amazed at how much our last year's class learned. But now we have new little three year old children who have minds that are open to learning.  I find that a great responsibility and privilege.
Heidi and I are starting all over with the alphabet.  So this past week was the letter A; both uppercase and lowercase.  I was so pleased when one of the children had an apple in their lunchbox and proudly told me that "apple starts with a".

# 148   How quickly little children absorb and learn new things

In PE, the children had some fun activities outside on the field.  They had to walk along a chalk line single file. Occasionally, the PE teacher had them skip or walk sideways to make it more interesting.

And of course, there was the occasional ...falling out of line.  Little Will had a little trouble here.

#149  Watching the children learn activities to help with their coordination

The children are taught to sit criss cross applesauce very early in the school year.  When they sit down to story time, there's more room and less danger of someone stepping on their fingers.

What a joy to watch little Evan this year!  Heidi told me the other day that if she had a classroom full of Evan's she'd be happy.  He is so sweet.  We get so excited when he excels in writing his name and knowing his numbers.  He is looking forward to being Star of the Week and putting together his poster for next week.  He even told me so excitedly "I have a friend.  Max and I are friends."

#150  Seeing a child blossom in so many ways right before my eyes

This past week one of my mom's best friends died.  Aunt Greta was a bridesmaid in my parents' wedding way back in 1950.  They were childhood friends and went to the same church.  During my growing up years, we celebrated all of our birthdays together with her six children.  One of them married my cousin Linda and they are missionaries in Belize.

It was sad for her family but thankfully most of them were by her bedside when she died.  She was a godly woman who loved Jesus. She was looking forward to seeing Him and to be with her husband Stan who died 20 years earlier.  I know  my mom will be having good talks with her in heaven too.

When I come home each day, my feet ACHE!  I am running around with little children all day.  And then during after school hours, I help out with getting kids to the gate to meet their parents.  With after school activities, it doesn't always go so smoothly.  So I find myself running to retrieve the children and walking them to the proper gate.

My husband Greg has been so good to me!  He has me lie down and he very patiently and methodically massages my feet.  It is so relaxing and I'm so grateful for his kindness.

  1. Enjoyed your blessings, you always include cute pictures of the kids. I started my list of 1,000 gifts on my birthday at the end of February and am neary to 1,000. I will keep going and want to start a book as a family too sometime.

    Have a great day!

  2. What a wonderful list of gifts. Thank you for investing in the lives of our children.
    Happy Multitudes on Mondays...

  3. Great list...yea! again for hubby. I am going to work with little ones at Awanas this year...and so know the foot thing, I felt it when working at the book store

  4. Bless you as you teach! Love this gratitude gathering.

  5. What a blessing to watch these children grow in their knowledge each year. Sorry to hear about your family friend, but thankful that there is a party going on in heaven in her honor! Oh and a husband who gives foot massages, you are truly blessed!

  6. Sweet list! Inspiring. I really should do this. Maybe I'll start next week!

    Blessings, abundantly!

  7. Hi Debbie, Loved reading your list and how it shows your grateful heart. You know, you probably wouldn't have chosen the adventure that you've been on the last several years but I can see plainly how the Lord had little ones who needed you. What a beam of light and Love you are dear friend. You make me miss teaching but here is Colorado is it different than in was in Ca.
Have a glorious week being the Lord's arms.
    Much love, Noreen

  8. I can just picture you with those little ones; and I have no trouble understanding why your feet hurt. My back would be out-of-whack, too.

It truly is the simple things in life that bless us most. Among my "everydays" are watering my hanging flower baskets, walking during the early morning hours, fixing dinner for hubby & me, drop-in visits by one of the kids or grandkids. I could go on and one!

  9. Always good to count our blessings because sometimes we fail to realize just how blessed we truly are. I've certainly been guilty of that in recent days. I can't see my blessings for the fog I'm in. Thanks for the gentle reminder. Hugs to you!

  10. I was able to get caught up with a few of your posts, Debbie, and I smiled at this one, because whenever I felt down or depressed and went to my classroom to teach, the children always made my day brighter and I could focus on them and not my physical pain. I love your love for these little ones and your love for your kind husband. The Lord is glorified by your love to others.

    With love and hugs,

I love to read your comments! I know you have something to share so join in the conversation. And thank you for taking the time.
