TSMSS ~ In the Garden

It's Then Sings My Soul Saturday when I link up with Amy of Signs, Miracles and Wonders.

This morning the song that kept popping into my head was "In the Garden". It's an old hymn that was written by Austin Miles in 1912. Although he was a pharmacist, his hobby was photography. While he developed photos in his dark room, he spent time quietly with the Lord reading Scripture. One day as he was reading John 20, this scene came into his mind and he wrote the words and music to "In the Garden".

I learned this information from a book called "Then Sings My Soul" by Robert J. Morgan. It was a gift from my realtor's assistant Judy.

Talk about the names of God. This was another example of God as El Roi and also as El Shadday. In the midst of a very difficult time and circumstances, God blessed me with another believer who came alongside of me. Thank you Judy!

I love the sound of Alan Jackson's voice.

Happy TSMSS!

Blessings and love,

Debbie Petras

My son surprised me and began singing this song with me and Alan...I can't tell you how touched I was that he knew this older hymn! It was quite the moment for us both.

I know you are busy sweet friend, but I also know your contagious joy! I invite you to come and get a bit joyful with me. There has been a serious lack of enjoying life in our home over the past few years. I'm busting out, and wanting you to join me, share your ideas, help me start something for others to join in.

  19. Hi Debbie,

I don't know if you know Sherry from Country Wings (in Mesa), but she's hosting an AZ Blogger luncheon next Saturday the 27th. I'm thinking about going and, if I do, I'd gladly leave early enough to grab you too if you'd like to go.

    Here's the particulars:

  20. Kathleen- I'm so glad you're going. I cannot make it next Saturday. :( But I know Sherry and she's so nice. Marty of A Stroll thru Life is going and she lives in Surprise. Next AZ get together ...I'm going.

    No email yet...

    Love you,

  21. Dear Debbie,
YOU are blessing me with sharing these songs of comfort.
I first heard "He walks with me." in the early 60ies. The lyrics were so simple I could understand it,and the song so soothing and reassuring already then. I found myself sitting singing along in the kitchen as YouTube played.

Some sunny day, my dear, you will see how many people have been blessed through your sharing, while undergoing these trials.

I pray and know for certain; he will still be walking with us.
    From Felisol
