Remembering My Mom

My mom died four years ago today. Instead of being sad, I want to remember all of the good times we had and treasure them in my heart. This photo was taken on her last birthday; her 75th. I was so glad I was able to celebrate that day with she and my dad.

My friend Terri always reminds that my mom now has another birthday; the day she graduated from this earth and went to Heaven. That comforts me because ...I know I'll see her again.
I'd like to share a few pictures with my blogging friends.

This photo was taken in Norway. My mom and dad loved to visit Norway as this is where all of their relatives originated from.

She loved her Norwegian cousins and enjoyed spending time with them.

She loved to do needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. She was always doing something with her hands. I didn't inherit this from her.

She loved to ride horses. When my dad and she were dating, they used to go horse back riding. I had the opportunity to take lessons with her many years ago.
This photo shows off two of my mom's talents. She was first of all ...a clown, alway joking. And second of all, she was an excellent piano player. She played by ear and could listen to a song and then sit down and play it. I took lessons as a kid but was never very good at it.

My mom had such fun taking Greg's car for a spin.
She worked in the medical field most of her life. I think that was another reason I became a nurse.

One of her favorite roles was that of Grandma

She loved to dance, especially those Norwegian folk dances!

Mom loved to walk the beach. Here she is with my sister Christine on Clearwater Beach, Florida.

I've been blessed with a wonderful mother and for that I'm so grateful. She loved the Lord and that love ...overflowed to all the people in her life.

Thank you Mom!

  5. Dear Debbie,
what a wonderful, gifted mother you have.
Even though she's in Heaven now, you always have her.
Wonderful pictures from fjords and mountains in Norway.
She sure was a lady of class. Look at her horseback riding, dancing and playing the piano. She must have mastered it all. Most important, she's looking so happy. I guess she was a wonderful mother spending time with and growing up with.
Did she also made the BUNAD herself??
I think have multitalented mother myself, but she never tried horseback riding. (She loves Bonanza, mostly for the horses though.)
Somehow I never got clever like my Mother, I guess I involuntarily kept out of competition.
I don't knit, crouch, embroider or sew like her, but I have found my own way of knitting, painting e.t.c. which my mother applauds. Mothers are great that way. They always want to see the best in their children. We do too.

We are lucky to have been blessed like this.

  9. I'm sorry I did not realize that today was the anniversary of your mom's death. I would have called, but now the hour is late and you are probably already in bed.
I remember meeting your mom, and the gracious lady that she was. However, I think I know more about her since her death - you have shared so many things about her. She had to have been very special. I think she would be very proud of you, her daughter. I know you miss her. Love you, h.

  13. Debbie,

I loved this post very much. I especially loved the photos of her on the horse and the one of her dancing!

I also thought it important and inspiring how you said, "Instead of being sad, I want to remember all of the good times we had and treasure them in my heart." I could feel that happiness in your writing and photos. This was a women I would like to have known! Wow, and she was your mother.

Isn't that certainly how we'd have our loved ones be, celebrating the wonderful times? I would!

I have been thinking of my mother lately, her love for life and what I learned from her.

I would like to do one of her on the anniversary of her death too (in July). Thanks for the inspiration.

Maybe I'll do one on my Dad (he's still alive and well at 84!

  15. Debbie,

I found you on Loni V. blog Writing Canvas. I enjoyed reading your tribute to your mother. I think it is so important to rejoice in the relationship we had with those who have gone on before us. It has given me the idea to do the same for my father whose birthday is this week. He went home to be with the Lord in 2006 a year before my husband.

    Blessings,
    Patricia
