Five Minute Friday: Fill

It's Five Minute Friday when we set our timers and get to write for five minutes flat. Our word for today is: FILL.

START

As I consider the word fill, much comes to my mind. I tend to fill my life with many things. In this age of technology:

  • I can fill my time shopping without leaving my home.
  • I can look at beautiful images on Pinterest and dream of places I long to visit and things I long to buy.
  • I can fill my time listening to music.
  • I can exercise while reading my Kindle.
  • I can fill my time keeping up with my friends and family on Facebook.
I'm amazed at how much time elapses as I fill my mind and life with so many things. Not all of these things are bad. Many of these things are good. But when I consider what truly satisfies me, it's not in shopping or dreaming.

I recall a quote I read by Blaise Pascal:
There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man that cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.

That's what I want to be filled with; Jesus. I want to saturate myself in His Word. I want to be filled to overflowing with His love. And then I want to go out into the world filled with His love to share with others.

How about you? What are filling yourself with? Is it satisfying?

STOP

I'm linking up with Kate Motaung who is now hosting Five Minute Friday.

Blessings and love,

  1. Great post Debbie! I too want soo much to fill myself with His Holy Spirit and lead a life that would bring glory to Jesus. And yet....how easy it is to fill ourselves with all the distractions this world has to offer...and there are so many of them. Why is it I wonder that I forget that the ONLY thing to fill myself with that brings with it LASTING peace, true contentment and joy is Jesus? Thanks for the reminder. Have a wonderful week-end!

  2. I LOVE that quote by Pascal too! I remember hearing it for the first time in college and thinking, "Is it really true?" If I had only followed this back then...yet, it is through finding God through our trials that we truly realize what we have found. Thanks for sharing! #FMFparty

  3. How true, dear Debbie. In this day and age it is so easy to fill our lives with so much that are not bad in themselves, but like Jesus said to Martha, can leave us feeling empty, exhausted, and worn out. There is only one thing that truly matters, that which Mary has chosen, to sit at His feet, gaze at His face, and listen to His heart. I loved my short visit here today, my way of reconnecting with you. I trust that all has been well with you, dear friend.

  4. I LOVE the quote you shared Debbie. It's so true that we can fill our days with so many things, good things, but there is only One who satisfies.

  5. Truly so! It really is the love we show which really fills. All that wanting disappears by grace. Have a tremendous weekend! :-)

  6. Psalm 65:8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
