It's Five Minute Friday when I link up with The Gypsy Mama. Yes, I know I'm a day late but I got out of my blogging rhythm with the holidays. So better late than never!
We receive a one word prompt and get to write for five minutes flat. It's been such a good writing exercise for me so I didn't want to miss out. Our word for this week is: FIGHT.
Competition can be a good thing and a bad thing. For me, it tends to spur me on when I become a bit lazy. After all, I don't want to be left in the dust. My flesh rears its head. Give me a good old fashioned arm wrestle with my sister-in-law Amy and ...I'm in!
But when I consider spiritual gifts I realize there's no competition. As Christians, we have each been given gifts. I may not have the gift of singing beautifully but I can offer the gift of a listening ear. Instead of envying another for their gift, I want to embrace the gifts I've been given and use them for God's glory.
We are in a fight; a battle. Let us not fight one another but use our gifts to love one another and spread that love.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. Ephesians 6:12
STOP
Blessings and love,
I love how the word "fight" took you to such beautiful thoughts about using our own gifts instead of comparing ourselves to others! Thanks for sharing.

Wow. I really like your take on this Friday's word. What a beautiful reminder of the fight we ARE in and the fighting that we are NOT called to do. Yet also, a great reminder about how we can use our gifts to build up the body of Christ, not to tear down. Really enjoyed this! I just got back into FMF this Friday too, and I agree, it is such an AWESOME writing exercise, and sometimes, I think a great way the Lord reveals Himself through what may be going on somewhere in our hearts. Happy New Year Friend!
ReplyDeleteGood post today. Like your thoughts. We are suppose to use our gifts to help and edify each other.
ReplyDeleteSuch good thoughts here today. Too often I get my eyes on to what other people are doing, and in my spirit there is a fight to be different than what God created me to be. Praying this year I will fight to use my gifts and how He created me to be a blessing to others.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and great take on the word "fight." Once we find our own particular gifts HE can really begin to use us if we avail ourselves. I pray that 2014 will find me faithful to avail myself. Blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteThe Five Minute Friday is a good way of sharing your heart in just a few sentences. That you used fight to mean a battle is good. How true that when we are fighting side by side in a battle, then we are on the same side. Unity is very important in winning! It was good to drop by here today. Debbie. I am praying for you as I end this comment, that Father God will shower you with abundant blessings of a year of fresh opportunities to draw closer to Him in intimacy and spiritual growth. Love, Lidia
