Are You Praying for the Impossible?

This is our quote for this week's "In Other Words Tuesday".  It was chosen by Living for God and that's where you can link up to join in.

I look around me and see many situations that seem impossible. After all, I'm not in control of other people and their responses.

I often say that I may not be able to control everything that happens to me but ...I can choose how I respond to them.

I can't tell you how much that has helped me cope with many issues in my life.

As I ponder Matthew 19:26, I wonder if I've been managing my expectations so I won't be disappointed.

Do I truly believe that NOTHING is impossible with God?

  • I pray over situations.
  • I spend time in His Word.
  • I ask the Lord to prompt me by His Holy Spirit when I am to speak and when I am to remain quiet.

But when things or people don't change, I have to admit I feel like maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Like I'm the reason for failure. But this Scripture verse says that with man (woman) this is impossible. I realize that I am taking responsibility for something that is God's.

I guess it comes down to surrender ...

That can be such a difficult word especially when you feel so capable.

Have you heard the phrase: God helps those who help themselves?

Well, it isn't anywhere in the Bible!

God helps those who come to the end of themselves and realize they cannot do it alone.  Why do you think so many people have to hit rock bottom before they come to God?

So, what do I do with the situations and people I'm praying for?

  • I continue to pray for the seemingly impossible
  • I surrender the situations and people to the Lord
  • I trust that God knows what's best
  • I believe that nothing is impossible for God
  • I rest in that promise
  • I live my life not constantly worrying

How about you?  Are you praying for the impossible?

Blessings and love,

  1. Hi dear Debbie, You and I have both prayed for the impossible for years without seeing visible evidence of change-yet this is where our trust comes in. Do we trust the Father enough to believe that He will accomplish that which He promised-you betcha. Trusting with you today.

  2. This is the real answer, isn't it? Whether of not we see results right away, or even for a long time, we pray and we obey and we believe!!

It's the same for all of us, no matter what we deal with. HE is the solution.

  3. It comes down to surrender. Boy that is so true. We need to surrender to the Lord and allow Him to work the impossible. He doesn't need our plan A, B, C's or anything else. Thanks for your encouraging words you left on my post. Have a great day.

  4. Loved this post, Debbie--yes, I do believe that God helps those who come to the end of themselves--so true!

A powerful challenge for us to really start or continue to pray for those things that seem impossible to us--

    thank you!

  5. I need to carry this around. I am discouraged and instead of praying continuously- complaining continuously to God about the situations...ahem PEOPLE I am praying for. Obviously I need an attitude adjustment. Or vacation. Or both. Probably why I just posted the verse and pic I did! Oh, Lord, help me to get this...and I remember once correcting a client who said to me she believed God helps those...etc. so true. He helps the helpless, the surrendered. Those who hope in Him...and yet, knowing it and continuing to believe He is working in the circumstance you are praying for which looks completely like He is doing nothing in...now that takes great faith...yet my eyes are on Him. But I do need an AA.

  6. Yes, I am, and have been, praying for an impossible with man situation for many years now. I take courage because I know with the Lord Almighty this situation is not impossible at all. My part is "having done all...stand."

  8. Dear Debbie,
Of course I pray for the impossible, all the time, my fears, my shortcomings, my loved ones, for health, for help, for forgiveness, for salvation, for suffering innocent children all over the world. I pray for good weather, even when the sky is gray and the rain is pouring,I pray for help through the darkest of nights when I cannot even see a strip of light. My experience has been; his there all the time. He is the shadow at my right hand.Till this day he has protected me, even against my own doings and wishes.
I live WITHIN the psalm 139, and grace over grace; He has not kicked me out!

  9. Thanks so much, Debbie, for sharing on my blog about your experience when you were a nurse! We never know how God is going to work. We just need to trust and obey.

  10. Oh, Debbie, your post touches my heart deeply. While I've come a long way in supporting my son's decision to enter the military, there is another impossible situation in his life that I have so much trouble believing God will take care of, or being able to surrender it to Him.
Yes, I keep taking it back and trying to control it myself. Your list of steps to take in giving it back to God are so good!
I think I will be copying your post to put in with my Bible meditations to redirect my thinking when I get discouraged.
This post was so Spirit-filled. Thank you, Debbie.
