We are to write for five minutes on the following prompt: 'DANCE'.
I love to watch dancers. They seem so graceful and free. I long to let myself go like that. But I seem to worry too much about how silly I look. So I hold myself back.
I've been watching the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance". I'm amazed by the top 20 contestants this year. The talent is simply amazing. To think that they have to learn several new dances each week with different choreographers is beyond me. To see their graceful lines and their ability to move so effortlessly ...all I can say is wow!
But I realized something. The dancers on the show are focusing entirely on their craft. They are receiving teaching, encouragement and often criticism from some of the best choreographers. And each week they improve. It's amazing what focus and training can do.
My dancing is nothing like this. I love movement and grace. I even took dance lessons as a child and for a year as an adult. But I never focused fully on dancing. It was just fun exercise for me.

1 Corinthians 10:31 says:
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
I may not be a dancer. But I've been given unique gifts from the Lord. I want to use them for His glory.
Blessings and love,
I've only recently discovered the joy of dancing. Oh to be mad for my King, like David!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad there is dancing in the Bible!
ReplyDeleteYou were a beautiful group of dancers in this picture. I'm like you, when I cut loose, it's for exercise and my door is closed! :)
Thanks for sending me the 'mimi' link!
I echo your desire to use my gifts for Him, dancing or not.
xo
What a great word prompt to blog on.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad God made us to dance...and for His glory and also to refresh and renew our own spirits.
I too am too worried about what others would think...but you know what, I am starting to shed that...why not? Who cares what a 51 year old does...my skilled dancing days are long gone.
Dance before the Lord....I can only imagine, but when I do, it will be perfect in His sight
Debbie, I love the idea of just dancing and moving and being so free! I am not a good dancer by any means, but sometimes when I can let go enough to just enjoy it. Good for you for enjoying it for His glory! :-) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I spotted you right away in the pic. I use to love to dance for exercise, too!

ReplyDeletefun form of exercise! you look beautiful with your
dance class!
I have a dear friend who use to be a professor at one of the local universities. One day she came to the school I was teaching at to lead in a seminar on writing. She had us do this very exercise. So many of us thought we had nothing to write about, but when you put it in small segments, like five minutes, you find that you have alot to say and need more time. And the dancing..........oh yes, dance on. I think it is good for our spirits. Love that saying, "dance like no one is watching." Actually, sometimes I do!
