Why is Change So Hard?

Why is change so hard?

I am in the midst of moving again and I'm really struggling.  I'm so thankful to be relocating back to a more central Phoenix location.  But the upheaval of moving and having to pick only what is necessary is hard for me.

I've been on spring break but it's been a time of painting, packing and decision making.  This isn't something I enjoy.  As a life long book lover, I am having to let go of my collection of so many books as we have no room in an 860 square foot condo.  Thank goodness for my Kindle!

As I go through this time of change, I want to share my struggles with you.  My life is not perfect.  My response to life issues isn't perfect.  But I'm so very thankful for good friends and that God is my strength.  I don't know how I'd get through life without Him.

During this time of transition, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite things.  I love my Pinterest finds.

I love flowers, candles and simple settings.

I love children.  I'm looking forward to going back to work in our Pre-K 3 class tomorrow.

I love times of solitude.  I enjoy people but need balanced times of being alone.

I can definitely say that God isn't finished with me yet.

But since this blog is called Heart Choices ...I choose joy!  After all, it's a fruit of the Spirit.

Will you pray for me during this season of change ...again?

I remind myself of God's Word:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  Isaiah 41:10

Thank you!

Blessings and love,

  1. I will be prating for you, Debbie! Since I am fairly new to your blog I have some catching up to do about some of your past moves. Change IS hard and downsizing adds to it. I will pray things go well and that you will find help and encouragement during this move.

  5. Oh, Debbie, you bet! I'll be praying for you in an extra special way in the days ahead. I so wish that it were possible for us to have an afternoon visit sometime. I just know that my heart would be even more blessed if I met you in person. May the Lord hold you tightly in the days ahead and give you His peace and comfort. Hugs!

  8. I stumbled on to this post -- but as one who has had to move more than I'd want (and part of my job is also preparing people to relocate either within China or back to the US) ... I love this. There ARE things to be grieved and things to look forward to. Both. Ah, the messiness of life, eh?! Amy

  11. Oh Debbie how I can soo relate...I have never done "change" well either. I too had to get rid of soo many of my book collections before we moved in here, and it was sooo hard at the time. But truthfully, I have found I don't miss them at all. : ) I will pray for you as you go through this season in your life for sure. God is soo faithful and He WILL see you through. HUGS!!

  12. Debbie - Praying for you as you pack. Having just moved for the first time in 21 years, and in the middle of a life-crisis; well, I do know how you feel.

But you are choosing joy, and it will come. Blessings to you - Marsha

  14. First of all, I LOVE the picture of the little girl. Her pink ruffled bottoms are to die for! =)
Second, I love that you are choosing joy. I learned that phrase for the first time in a book called Created to be His Help Meet. I think choosing joy is one of the things that sets us apart as Christians.
And third, I would love to pray with you as you transition. I am such a creature of habit and comfort, and hate change! I know the Lord will give you the strength and peace as you start each day. Blessings to you!!

  18. Oh how I can relate to the moving thing!! And getting rid of books....tell me about it, girl! I donated and gave away over half of mine during my recent move back to PHX....kinda sad but a necessary thing.

Praying for His strength and peace for you during this transition time!

    HE IS FAITHFUL!

    Luv and Sweet Blessings!

  19. I have been out of town for the last few days and have just read your post. Oh Debbie, I know these last couple of years (and longer) have been hard. Yet, you have handled it with such grace, such faith...you have blessed so many of us with your positive attitude. I know this is hard, not what you would have chosen. The Potter's fire has been hard for you; you have experienced so many things - enough to fill a book, or at least a blog! I love you my dear friend, you are in my prayers (and tomorrow at my side!)

  20. Change isn't easy, but I love how you are choosing joy! For me, change like this (moving) stirs up old, sometimes painful memories for me. However, like you, I make the conscious choice to look at the positive and to choose joy! The future is exciting with God! May you be blessed in your new home!

  21. Dear Debbie,
I have been busy struggling to help my helpless mother, so I haven't been much around lately.
I do not have an answer to all the ways. On the contrary; I often feel I cannot see God.
My comfort is trying to rest in Psalm 139; God sees me.
He loves me, and when I cannot walk, he carries me.
I know in my heart, I am attached to my belongings too, to mold and rust.
Lately going thrift shopping has been a welcome way of forgetting my trials for a short while. I try, however to recirculate as much as I can. That is my way of dealing with abundance.
at the end if the day, I have to face reality over and over again. hen it's all "Grace Above Grace", like my mother puts it.
    Yours Felisol
