National Day of Prayer 2015

Tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer. I believe our nation needs desperate prayer. As I watch the news unfold, I'm amazed by what I see and hear. I believe Washington can't fix all of our problems. We need wise and humble leaders but most importantly ...we need to get on our knees and pray.

Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Freedom of religion was so important to our founding fathers. They didn't want to be dictated to about how they could worship. The United States has opened its doors to people of all faiths. God gave us free will to make choices. We aren't coerced to believe in Him.

The theme for this year's National Day of Prayer is ...LORD, HEAR OUR CRY.

The verse for this year's National Day of Prayer is ...

"Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day." 1 Kings 8:28

Here is the video that was created for this year's National Day of Prayer.

As Christians, we have a wonderful and amazing privilege to come before Almighty God and pray.

Recently I spent some time with my good friend Susan. She and her husband are on furlough for three months as they work as missionaries overseas. She told me how so many people they encounter worship many gods.

There is a common practice of worshiping their ancestors who died. They offer gifts on behalf of their loved ones. And as they pray to many gods, they remind them of who they are. My friend said they would  tell them their name and where they lived. They didn't want someone else to receive the answer to their prayers.

As I listened to Susan, I was reminded of how my God knows my name. I don't have to remind Him of who I am and where I live.

He even knows the number of hairs on my head. (Luke 12:7). I have to laugh as I well remember the day I shared that with my nieces while we were on a trip to Washington DC. Kristin and Katie were getting ready fixing their hair. I can still see Katie's face as she looked at me in amazement when I told her that was in the Bible.

How amazing is it that He knows my name? I love this song by Francesca Battistelli.

Will you make the choice to pray for our nation?

  1. More than ever, our nation and our leaders need our prayers. Our people need our prayers. We need to pray for ourselves, too. I was reminded of this verse:

"Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14, NLT)

Yes, Lord, hear our cries and may it be so.

    GOD BLESS!
