How Will You Respond to our Country's Problems?

I watch the news.  I follow world events. I observe how our elected President of the United States responds to the issues confronting our nation today.

It would be so easy to give in to fear.

I wake up early each morning. After making a cup of coffee, I sit quietly reading my Bible. I spend time in prayer. I often sit on my front patio as I listen to the sound of the birds chirping before most of my neighbors awaken. I smell the blooming flowers in my little garden. And I thank the Lord for His presence in my life. I pray for guidance and wisdom. I pray for our country and yes, even our President.

There has been a heaviness on my heart lately. The Scripture that kept coming to my mind was from 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Politics can't solve our country's problems. Money can't solve our country's problems. The military can't solve our country's problems.

I did a nonscientific search on Google to see how many Americans claim to be Christian. It seems to be between 77-80%. I don't believe that all of those people are true believers and have submitted their lives to Jesus Christ. Only God knows their hearts. But it seems that there are many believers in the US.

If only believers would  ...

  • Read their Bible
  • Obey what the Bible says
  • Pray for our nation's leaders
  • Pray for our cities
  • Pray for our churches
  • Live out what they claim to believe
As I was in the process of writing this post, I just 'happened' to receive an email. Joel Rosenberg's blog had the following headline:

Anne Graham Lotz & new Southern Baptist Convention president call for urgent prayer for a Third Great Awakening.

Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Graham's daughter) also has a burden for the church. She has called for An Urgent Call to Prayer

I am not burying my  head in the sand. I believe our country needs to take a stand. I support our military and the sacrifice they make to defend our country. I believe we need to pray for our elected officials.

So I ask you a question. How will you respond to our country's problems?

Blessings and love,

  1. I agree with you sister Debbie. That's one of our life's purpose..."to be prayerful." Easier said than done but may we, believers, be able to grow and be disciplined in that area. What is going on around us is truly heart wrenching. And that is my prayer, too. That many, out of desperation will be driven to His cross. It's sad. Each day. Joining you in prayers. For our nation. For the leaders. For our family. Love and blessings to you sister. Your "prayer corner" is peaceful as I look at it and sip my coffee. Leaving you with a prayer...Have a great rest of the week. Remaining strong in the Lord's power.

  2. Praise, Pray and accepting the Peace of the Lord first, everyday is a great start and brings joy. Then, as in James 1:17-25, use your God given gifts for others and be an example of what the world can be. "But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does."

  3. I'm believing with you for that revival, Debbie. It would change everything if Christians would rise up and take a stand for truth. I pray that we Christians will not only pray but become educated and vote.

I like to sit outside too in my garden and watch the sun come up and pray with the birds in the background!

  4. I also keep informed about what is happening in the news but always through the filter of who God is, knowing he is both sovereign and transcendent. He is calling he shots whether leaders want to acknowledge it or not. That gives me peace despite the temptation to succumb to fear (or anger when people act like idiots! lol!). Thank you for this great reminder, Debbie!

  5. Amen and Amen. Prayer is the only way I see and feel in my heart where there lies the answer. God knows and He hears. He wants to hear from us. May we seek His face, not just once, but without ceasing.

  6. This is a very timely blog and so well said. I agree completely. We can be consumed by our own fears and even anger, or we can go right back to the only One who can change this world. I'm standing with you. I remember my dad saying that verse so many times. He would say "If my people..." and we all knew the rest, as we do today.

    Good words Debbie.
    Love you!

  7. Yes, very good words Debbie and I needed the reminder. I need to be more dedicated to praying for our country and our leaders. It's so easy to stick our heads in the sand and think that there's nothing we can do. But, there is, prayer makes a difference and if all Christians would covet to pray believing, we just might begin to see a difference. Wishing you a wonderful week!

  8. Every day seems to bring more news of how are country is hurting and how the world seems to be falling apart, and your words brings a reminder that we are to focus on God and His word, but also, that we are to pray for our leaders, country and communities. I am going to follow the link you gave for Ann Graham Lotz's call to prayer.
