Five Minute Friday ~ Broken

It's Five Minute Friday when I link up with Lisa-Jo of The Gypsy Mama.  This morning I get to write for five minutes on our writing prompt ...broken.

START

Each morning when I go to work, I am greeted by children.  It's really a joy to hear their sweet voices as they clamor around to give me a hug.  But inevitably, they begin to show me their boo-boos.

"Miss Debbie, look at my boo-boo."
"I fell and now I have a band aid."
"Can you give me a band aid?  I think this scratch has blood."

I'm amazed at how many little boo-boos they get and how much they want to show them all to me.  :)

Aren't we all a bit like that in one way or another?

We all have stories of brokenness.  Sometimes it's easier to keep silent.  But other times we feel better if we tell someone about our boo-boos.

In my personal story of brokenness:

  • I can talk to others.
  • I can bury my hurt.
  • I can try to comfort myself.
  • I can attempt a quick fix.
  • I can become bitter.
But I have to say that nothing can heal my brokenness like God.  And He is doing that for me.

Having the opportunity to be greeted by children each day is healing for me.  You see I was not able to have children.  But the Lord never forgot my desire.  He answered my prayer in a way I would never have imagined.  It's not a way I may have preferred.  But in the midst of my brokenness, I am beginning to heal.

What a Savior!  My heart is so thankful.

END

Blessings and love,

  2. Aren't you glad He gives us more than Band-Aids? He heals our brokenness from the inside out. I know your pain, Debbie. I'm glad you're healing. Easter joy to you.

  3. Beautiful. I feel the same way about my school children. I was only able to have one child and he is disabled. The Lord found a way to fill in the hole in my heart.

  6. Oh Debbie, this is so touching and beautiful--

I pray that all of your brokeness is healed by our wonderful Savior.

I think it is from Psalm 105 but not sure--

"He sent forth his word and healed them."

Easter miracles to you dear friend.

  7. I think "Amen!" like Deborah B above my comment said is appropriate.
Today, I was making the comment about having only a step son (no DIL or grandchildren) and I realized it sounded like he wasn't enough. I was surrounded by my grandma friends and they said "someday". Well, you never know really. I'm so glad that you have a ministry to the kiddos. I can just hear them showing your their boo-boos! Someone needs to share their boo-boos! Thanks for your post!
"A heart like yours ... for a time like this". I think that's what it is.
    Thanks, Jenn

  8. Sacrifices sometimes are asked of us, and other times forced upon us. When it happens to me, I pray and give thanks (as you have) and remember hebrews 13:1-2 "Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
-- you Debbie are blest and are entertaining angels at your school.

  9. Oh, how beautiful! And, you are so right, there is no one who can heal our brokenness like Jesus. But, it is sure nice to have our Christian sisters and brothers listen, comfort and encourage us along the way. May your Easter be especially blessed!
