Weigh-In Wednesday ~ Refocus

It's Weigh-In Wednesday.  I would love to share how I lost another couple of pounds and that I exercised every day but ...it just wasn't one of those weeks.  I've been fighting allergies and a sinus infection that's left me fatigued.  Many of the children in our Pre-K 3 class have had colds so along with that comes lots of runny noses and coughing.  Although we teach them about covering their coughs with their elbow and using tissues to wipe their little noses, they sometimes forget.  So it's been one of those weeks.

Keep Your Eyes on the Goal

However, I'm keeping my eyes on the goal of living a healthy lifestyle.  For me this means one I can live with long term; not a short term diet to lose a few pounds.  There will be those days or weeks in life. It's important to not lose sight of my goal.

Can you can identify with this picture?  I certainly can.  The little birthday girl is still wearing her crown.  But she is so tired.  But don't give in and give up!  This is not the time to reach for that bag of chips.  Yes I'll admit I did indulge and eat too may Girl Scout cookies. :)

This is the time when it can be a temptation to give up and scrap the whole plan.  But don't do it!

Refocus

This is the time to refocus.  Maybe losing 10 pounds in two weeks was a bit unrealistic after all.  Why not work on planning healthier meals and writing them down once a week.  I started to put together a huge salad of assorted lettuce and veggies each Sunday evening. When I pack my lunch for work, I simply grab a healthy salad with a bit of low calorie dressing.  I add a few pieces of fruit and I'm all set. I've also been using my crock pot so dinner is easy when I come home in the evening.  A little planning makes a huge difference and doesn't allow me time to get so hungry I reach for whatever is available.

I've found Pinterest to be a great source for many  healthy recipes. I know it can be easy to get distracted by all the yummy high calorie foods you see there.  But there are many low calorie ideas on Pinterest too.  This black bean salad is one I've made and it's good. You can click through on the photo to get the recipe.

So don't give up when you've had one of those weeks.  It's time to refocus on the long term goal; healthy living.

I'm linking up with Kim of At Home with Kim for Weigh-In Wednesdays.

Blessings and love,

  1. That salad looks good!!! I brought my son to his doctor yesterday, concerned about his coughs lasting for weeks. A combo of his allergy and some viral that he was put on antibiotics. Still...we both know...We are blessed to make changes with our diets and I tried buying lesser processed foods and that helped him a lot. I also watch out for bread that have high sodium and sugar. Any changes help. We have to take care of our bodies so we can be healthy to serve our good Lord. I pray that you are healed with your sinus/cold problems. When I stayed away from sugary foods, I started losing weight, too. Despite of lack of exercise at times because of my neck achiness. So...keep pressing forward...He Who is in you is faithful to complete the work He started...Praying God's protection over you sister and thank you for your encouragement. Have a great Wednesday.

  2. I'm right there with you Debbie, just one day at a time of forming new and better eating habits and exercise. I've lost 9 pounds, but the true goal is like you said, to make it long term. That's my goal too. Hang in there sister, we are going to DO this thing!! :)

  3. One day, and one pound at a time. For me it is so hard to wrap my mind around the big picture - 250 lbs to go... So I have to just focus on today....

  4. Thanks Debbie, I needed to be reminded of this today. I want it to be short term and quick but have to remember that the long term is the one that will last. . .to keep my eyes focused on Him and to not give up but to continue to make those healthy choices one choice at a time.

  5. I LOVE Pinterest. Although I must confess, when I go to pinterest I often find myself looking at knitting projects, LOL! However, I have found it a great way to "organize" all the various healthy recipes I come across online by just "pinning" it to a board. LOVE IT!
Totally love your attitude too. Because with every journey, there is always an unexpected pit-stop, detour, who knows, and you are right, it's a time to refocus, not just throw out the whole plan. Enjoyed reading your update today, look forward to reading next week's too! :)

  6. Thanks, Debbie, for keeping us focused.

I, also, have pinned this recipe on Pinterest.

Now I need to get busy and make it.

I've been fighting an acute upper respiratory infection and just late this afternoon started to almost feel human again.

    Sure hope you keep improving.

    Love,
    D.

  7. Hi Debbie, I found you over at Kim's place on the Wednesday Weigh-In posts. I just started a basic walking challenge over at my blog last week and have added more to my own personal plan. One way or another I am determined to get back to living a more healthy lifestyle. It's nice to meet a fellow blogger working on similar goals. I'm your newest follower :)
