You Matter

Do you believe that ...you matter?

It can be easy to think that who you are and what you do really doesn't matter.

We live in a time when people want to be known.  With social media, anyone can become famous even if it's for five minutes and maybe for the wrong thing.

I enjoy watching reality TV shows like The Voice and The X Factor. I'm amazed by the talent that may never have been discovered. These platforms provide an opportunity to be heard and seen by millions.

There are moments when I wish I could sing.  Unfortunately, I didn't inherit that gene from my parents.  I'm glad that our classroom of twenty 3 year old children don't seem to notice if I'm a little off key as we sing "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands".  :)

It can be easy to begin to compare yourself to others and ...feel disappointed.

Remember this ...

God created each one of us with unique talents and abilities. Maybe you'll never be discovered for your singing ability.

What you do with what you've been given is key.  You matter.

  • Offer the gift of encouragement to someone in need.
  • Take a break from texting and read a story to your child.
  • Pray for those you promised to pray for.
  • Listen patiently to that person who takes forever to express themselves.
  • Call a friend who is going through a rough time.
  • Write a blog post even if you get no comments.  (That post may be just the one that touches another person's heart and just what they needed to read.)

What you do matters.  This list is just a beginning.  I have the feeling you can add to my list.

Blessings and love,

  2. This post is great at this time of year because so many need help or assistance for the holidays. A wonderful way to feel significant is extending ourselves to others. I like that! Thanks for the reminder.

  3. This was a great post Deb, and I just couldn't agree more. YOU are always such an encouragement to me. Oh and btw, I have often thought how fun it might have been to have been blessed with a beautiful voice...but trust me, that one just didn't happen, lol. Have a GOOD day! HUGS

  4. I'm glad I came over now and just got reminded how special I am in His eyes...At times that the enemy perhaps is throwing the thought that I don't matter at work but I know His truth better...I pray you're 100% better...May you have a wonderful week ahead...Our perspective does change, doesn't it when we know that we do MATTER and each of us may be different but is equipped by His hands with one or more talents in order for us to work for Him. God bless.

  5. I have been taking a little break from blogging, as my eyes need a break from the computer, but I am so glad I came by today, because you have encouraged me so much, as you usually do. I am also glad that you are feeling better, and I hope your time with the kids at school is as rewarding and a blessing to you and them.I am thankful for you, Debbie!

  8. Thank you my friend. I needed this one. I struggle with knowing that I matter and acceptance often. I do sing. I was placed on a worship team in the house of prayer, but am always the 4th singer on the row and get intimidated often. All of my children have beautiful voices and lead worship in our fellowship. I often wish I could sing like then. But I know God sees my heart. I sing for Him, first and foremost, and not for the praises of man. Thank you for reminding me that I matter!

  12. Thank you for the encouragement. I always wonder if I have anything to say that others want to hear. I got discouraged because I notice that people don't comment on my blog so I think no one is reading. I read your post (along with encouraging words from you personally) and I went to my blog's overview and low and behold I found out that last month I had over 3,000 page views! I must realize that not everyone will comment. If the Lord leads me to write then He knows there is someone out there that needs to hear it and that He will send that person to my blog. Thank you dear friend for your continued prayers.
