Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos

How can I find peace in the midst of chaos?

I crave peace.  Yes, I need outside stimulation but I also long for a balance of quiet and rest.

I look around at my current surroundings.  They look so different from where I was several years ago.  I am trying to fit my downsized possessions into a very small space.  The result is ...a mess of boxes with no place to squeeze what's inside.

I remember the day I took this photo.  My life was so different then. I lived in a very large and very organized home.  Everything had its place.  I went for my daily walk which often included scenes like this. Beautiful grounds that were extremely well maintained.  Life was more orderly and peaceful.  It was easier to find peace.

But now my view has changed.  But can I still find peace?

When I take my eyes off:

  • the chaos of unpacking
  • establishing new routines
  • my long to-do list
  • anxiety that time is running out on my summer off from school
  • the friends I want to spend time with while I can
  • the way I look nowadays in the mirror
Instead, I focus on:

  • My circumstances may change but my God never changes
  • Who I am in Christ
  • He is my peace in the midst of any storm
  • Nothing is impossible for Him
So in the midst of chaos, I choose to stop and spend time slowing down.  I choose to have my quiet time.

Isaiah 32:17 (NLT)
"And this righteousness will bring peace.  Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever."

I find that I do have peace.

Blessings and love,

  1. Such a wonderful perspective today my friend. I was just sitting and thinking about some things in my life that can cause my focus to shift off of peace. I must keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, and not my circumstances!

  4. I would imagine there are very few that cannot relate to this. Maybe a different circumstance, but same heart issue. It is so easy to take our eyes off of Him and get wrapped up in our circumstances and then chaos breaks loose. Thanks for this very timely post!!! Blessings abundant my friend!

  7. And that's His promise, true promise:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.-John 14:27

May you always remain strong in His mighty power.

  9. Looking at old photos (sometimes looking at old posts) remind me of earlier seasons. And while I'm mostly glad I have them as keepsakes, if I linger there too long, there's a sadness that can creep in as well.

Yes, God is our peace, and whenever we're focusing on him, we find out compass, our anchor, our stability in the midst of storms.

  10. Your words have blessed me today, Debbie, reminding me of the verse he gave me long ago ~ “Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

I am stilled and covered in His peace even in life's storms. Thank you, Debbie, for being open to sharing how God speaks to you through His word. I am blessed today because of you, dear friend!

  11. The peace that only He can give and the world can't take away...yes His peace, and so many times it comes in different shapes and forms than we imagined.

My post today goes hand in hand with yours..why, because we are both still on a similar journey?

Blessings...love you lady, and I pray one day I can give you a big hug around your neck this side of heaven
