Who Do You Trust?

Who do you trust?

Little Jake looks so relaxed as he trusts his dad (my cousin Rod) to catch him.  It seems like forever since I felt that way.  And yet I'm learning but sometimes ever so slowly ...

I believe my faith has grown through trials.

I hear people say something like 'God doesn't give you more than you can handle.'

But the more I think about that ...I disagree.

I think God allows us to go through trials and challenges that are too much for us to handle.  You see, that's when I cling to Him.  He is my refuge.  If I could handle it myself, why do I need God?

After a long season of challenges, I thought I had learned to trust God with everything.  I look back and see how He has provided for my needs, not necessarily all my wants.  He has been at work in many situations I've prayed about.  I might not see all the answers yet but I have hope for tomorrow.

I long to be at a place in my faith walk when I don't slide back into fear and anxiety.  But I have to admit I still have those moments.

In the next few weeks, my husband and I will be moving AGAIN.

I thought I would never leave my home that I loved but two years ago we moved.  We've been living further out of town and it's a long drive to work and family responsibilities.  I think this is a positive move.  But it's another change.

I will have to decide what we can take with us as the place is even smaller than where we are currently living.  On the bright side, it won't take me long to clean.  But I still have boxes in the garage I need to sort through.  This causes me anxiety.

Greg finally told me to decide what I want to take with me instead of what I have to get rid of.  I think that's a good idea.

So who do I trust?

I am making a daily choice to trust my God.  I believe He sees all and knows all.  Nothing takes Him by surprise.

How about you?  How do you deal with change?  Do you ever waver into fear and anxiety?

I'm linking up with Bonnie for a Faith Barista Jam as we discuss TRUST.

Blessings and love,

  2. One thing is for certain Debbie; regardless of our anxieties, trials eventually come to an end, and God can be absolutely counted on to fulfill His promises! I know He allows our trials to come because they are necessary to accomplish His purpose in our lives ... you are making the right daily choice! :)

Bunches of blessings to you and your husband on your move; I can't wait to visit in only one more month! :)

  3. I love the verse with the photo. Psalm 91 is my favorite. Praying with you as you prepare for this move and the decisions to be made and the adjustments to some.

    Blessings, sweet friend!

  4. Debbie, I agree with you. God DOES give us more than we can handle so that we realize how much we need Him. I'm in a similar place my friend.

Wow, you're moving again? I pray God will give you speed and peace as you weed through the objects that you can take with you. Maybe you can have a yard sale?

God bless you as you fall into His arms my friend.

    Love!

  5. Oh Debbie, I so relate. I am a person who likes things to stay relatively the same, but then I go and get involved in this career in technology where change is all we seem to do. Now we are moving next door to another building and many more people! Yes, anxiety...but like you, I know what to do with it. I will pray for you and you can pray for me, deal? Lori

  6. Good morning! Oh I'd love to say that I have got that all conquered, but that just couldn't be further from the truth unfortunately. But what I have noticed recently is that when I do find that happening, my mind QUICKLY jumps to realizing that "doubt" "fear" "despair" "anxiety" do NOT go with "trust" "obedience" "peace" and "love" and so I MUCH quicker than before just let go. I don't want to spend my any time anymore with those other things. He always answers me. Good luck on your move. Soo much work I know. I find myself STILL getting rid of things I held onto (for some weird reason or another) when we moved into this MUCH smaller place. And you know what? Every time I do I have found I don't miss it at all. Have a good week-end Deb! HUGS

  7. Change can often be difficult. But then, on the other hand, it can also be exciting if we are trusting that God has a good plan in it (and He always does!) I so agree with your statement disagreeing with "God never giving us more than we can handle"...I think the correct way to say that would be, "God will never give us more than we can handle with Him!" He wants us to rely on Him and to come to Him for strength and comfort. He doesn't want us to try to handle everything on our own. When things are overwhelming, it is God it gets us through! What a blessing! (Oh, and Greg's perspective is great! Choose what to take...)

    Blessings, Joan

P.S. I'm excited to hear more about your move! We may be looking for a new place in the next month because we discovered last summer that our current place doesn't have air conditioning! I didn't even know places came without it! ahhhh!

  8. Oh, I hear you... I'm "with you" in that garage and understand the stresses of having to sort, pitch, and pack. I pray that God gives you his good direction and motivation to get through this. In the end, you might be relieve to have gone through the process... again.

You're right... if we could do it all on our own, how does God fit into the picture? It's only through the power of his Holy Spirit living IN us are we able to tackle life's issue and overcome.

May the rich promises of God's peace and presence be yours as you move forward in coming days.

  9. Yes, I agree with you, Debbie, about God allowing us to go through things we cannot handle by ourselves! Each experience is an opportunity to grow in Him. When we moved, I, too, started to get rid of what we didn't need or want, and we did get rid of a lot, but finally, we stopped going through stuff and just moved, and we are now culling through the boxes to see what we really need and want to save. (We have an unfinished basement and that helps for storing the boxes for now!)In this much smaller home, we have a simpler need of things, and I am more excited about having less, actually. I know your move is not of your choice, but you have chosen to trust Christ, and it is a daily choice, as you said. Again, you bless me with your transparency, Debbie.

  10. I was thinking..."OMG!" The baby was pretty high in the air but seemed to enjoy it knowing his dad would catch him..."

It is not an option to turn our backs when we go through trials or battles. I noticed there was nothing in the back when we don the Armor of God...Except the belt of truth that goes around. And His truth...helps us to have more faith despite not knowing the outcome of any circumstances. Through my own battles, I desire to have more dependence on Him knowing I can't do it alone. That's what I'm thankful for that He is not giving me any option to turn back so I can rely more on Him and gain more faith...That has more worth than gold. Thank you for your reminder and may you have a great weekend sister. Your trust in the Lord already helps my faith...God bless.

  11. Dear sweet Debbie, We have so many of the same picture with my husband throwing our kids over his head or jumping off the bed into his arms and I would always wonder if I would ever be able to do that with the Father....I have taken small steps and some change is easier than others but I know I have to keep my focus on Him or else like Peter I will fall into the water....

I will be praying for you and your hubby as you make this move and I pray that you will see very quickly that it is a good thing from the hand of the Father..//

  12. Great photo to illustrate your point. We never know what's ahead, like a move, and God is faithful to order our steps.

  13. Hi Debbie,
I agree with you. Sometimes God allows us to go through trials that we can't handle on our own. But through Him we can handle them. I know my faith and trust in Him continues to grow. I'm thinking that there will never be a point where my trust in Him can't grow deeper. If I think I trust enough, it's probably a point where I can slide backwards. Really liked your post today!
    Blessings,

  15. Maybe this whole journey you've been on is part of God's pruning process, it's for sure He is going to prune that garage!! :)

Really, we get so encumbered by our 'stuff' in this life, and it seems He helps us to simplify and reduce some of that load. Moving into a smaller place is not what would be #1 on our lists, but Debbie... you are doing it with such grace and style! May I look at your life and learn, as you have learned. You have grown so much and come so far. If you don't believe me, just ask Greg!! :) HE knows what a jewel he has for a wife.

This reminds me of my daughter calling me and saying 'you HAVE to come and tell me I can give or throw these stacks of things away'. She needs 'permission'. :)

I have such a strong sense that you and Greg will make this new place into such a cozy and comft home. You will have to take before and after pictures and show us.

    I'm so proud of you!

  16. Oh, Debbie, I so agree with you that He does give us more than we can bear so that we will totally rely on Him for our strength. I wish that I was nearby to give you a big ole hug. You have been through such a tough time these past couple of years and I can only imagine that your trust waivers from time to time. Praying that you will feel His peace and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.Sending you a hug!

  17. Dear Debbie,
You are asking really challenging questions.
I know the Answer from Math.6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Nevertheless I am surrounded by things I love and it would break my heart to loose my home. I know that too.
My treasure is in heaven, but I also have things here where moth and vermin destroy and thieves break in and steal.
I honestly don't know how I'd cope if I were in your shoes. I just admire and get strengthened by the way you so honestly are sharing your road and progress towards our heavenly goal.
I admire you and I am praying for the both of you, that the Lord must be true to his promises in Deuteronomy 33:25 "Iron and brass shall be thy bars; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be."

Really neither of us have any choice than walking on God's promises. Where should we turn to?? If I said it is easy, I would be a liar. Then again,I have no other choice. Often, in the valley of despair, I talk with my Mom and with Gunnar. and pray. "One day at a time, sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking of you." This far he has stood by us, one day at a time and given us the daily manna we need. I know nothing about the future and I have stopped making plans. Even so, I have a blessed life. I so thank you for taking time and caring about me midst in your own storms.
Your wards are a true blessing, because they come from the clean heart of a tried soul.God bless you and Greg richly and let you feel, He is walking close with you ever step of your road.
    Love Felisol

  18. I'm sorry you're having to move again. I pray the positives of having a shorter commute and less to clean will outweigh the hard work of having to move again. I love the approach of picking out what to take with you instead of what you're having to leave behind. And I may borrow that philosophy myself in other ways! I'm having a very difficult time right now with church stuff. I don't want to leave my church behind, but I need to be thinking about what good things I can take with me if I have to.

If God doesn't get me through this, I won't get through. Leaning hard on him...

  19. Absolutely, God allows us more than we can handle, so we can learn to trust Him. And what an awesome God, nothing is impossible with Him.

  20. So many of your thoughts are mine! I'm not facing a move, but other challenges test my faith just now. And I know about slipping back into fear. But He is patient with us and lovingly reminds us in many ways that His grace is sufficient. May you feel His arms holding you securely as you face this change.

  21. Debbie, it was good to hear your thoughts on trust. I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with trust--not that I'm happy you are. But sometimes I feel like I'm such a weak Christian because my faith is not strong enough and I don't release things to God easily.
I agree with you that God does give us more than we can handle! I've seen it in my life in so many ways. And in those times, we definitely draw closer to Him because He alone has all the answers and all the comfort.
Praying your move will be a blessing and a joy~free of anxiety.
    Love you,
    Janis
