How to Live Without Fear

I am fearless!

My husband says I'm scary sometimes.  He brings up my Viking heritage but he's only kidding (I think).

But if you know me or you've read Heart Choices for any length of time, you know that I struggle at times with fear.  I tend to prefer my comfort zone.

But life isn't always predictable.

As I've gone through a long season of changes, the Lord has been teaching me important lessons.

Isaiah 41:10 is laminated and sitting right in front of me at my computer screen:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
God knows the beginning from the end.  He knows all the details of my life.  Nothing takes Him by surprise.

On my own, I may become fearful.

So how do I live without fear?

  • I remember what God's Word says.
  • I choose to believe God's Word.
  • I don't allow my emotions to control me.
  • When I stumble, I run back to His open arms of love and forgiveness.
  • I remind myself that He is always with me.

I'm jamming today with Bonnie of Faith Barista on the topic of fearless.  Bonnie is in the midst of writing a book.  I look forward to reading it after it's published.  If you've come to know Bonnie through her blog, I encourage you to pray for her as the date for her manuscript submission is fast approaching.

Blessings and love,

Hah, my mom called me a viking because of my anger, so your pic caught my attention. I think most of us struggle with fear, so your points of how to battle it are perfect words of wisdom. Thanks, Debbie!

Amen...and Joshua 1:9 has been one of Benjamin's memory verses, which has been so good for me to hear on a regular basis...thanks for the "fearless" post!

"God knows the beginning from the end. He knows all the details of my life. Nothing takes Him by surprise."

Words like these help me so much to walk through my fear.

I love your bulleted list of ways you live without fear. I need to do every one of those often! Thanks, Debbie.

Love you,
Lisa

Oh Debbie, this is so, so good.

I, too, struggle with fear at times--my father was a very fearful person and the enemy has tried to instill that same fear in me--

The scriptures you gave are wonderful and I so appreciate the reminder.

Love,
D.

We are definitely in a battle everyday....who will we listen to and who will we believe...God or the devil....

Great post....I think all of us battle with fear at one time or another so this is a very good reminder of what to do when it rears it's ugly head....

I agree with one of the above comments, you are a true warrior! I think we all have to deal with fear in some shape, form or fashion and I love how you deal with it. I may have to post those to remind myself.

I missed you while I was gone and enjoyed the inspiration of this post!

I always smile when I see "Debbie the viking," picture. You look so fearless in your viking hat and viking pose. But you know, there is nothing that takes the place of the armour of God - that's the real protection from fear. The world is a scary place - don't leave home without your armour (and a viking hat if you want to look really cute!)

You do look fearless in the photograph; ready to take on the enemy :)

Fear can be very debilitating. But as you have shared, with God's Word we can move past the fear.

You're the cutest Viking I've ever seen! Thank you for this encouraging post, Debbie. The past few months have really been rough for me personally, but without the fear I don't think I'd turn to Him nearly as much...and perfect Love casts out all fear. So thankful we have Him!

hugs,
Vicki

You would make a beautiful Viking! I love that! I want to take your words and just stuff them inside my children like seeds and let them grow!!!!! My reserve soldier son is talking about a SEPT thing that when I think about it, really think about it, plants fear seeds - and I think that if he believed how I believe now about God and fear and danger - that fear wouldn't be an issue with me. But God knows older people have grown greater faith and knows younger people's faith are just taking root - and I hold on to He knows. Praying that my son's plans change - this particular job nobody else wanted:(
