What One Simple Thing Could you Do to Take Care of Yourself Today?

I'd love to share some profound wisdom as a new year is fast approaching.  But today, I needed to do something simple to take care of myself.

I need my car.  It's almost 12 years old and has well over 100,000 miles on it.  I used to take such good care of my car; keeping up with maintenance and having it washed every Saturday.

However, lately it seems that I put the key in my car, get on the freeway to go to work each day as I pray that it won't break down despite the brake light being on for some time now.

I'm happy to report that during my two weeks off from work, I got new brakes and four new tires!  I  know my work partner Heidi will be happy to hear this news.  :)

Many years ago I read a book called "One Minute For Yourself".  I remembered that one of the questions in the book was to ask yourself the question "what is one simple thing you could do right this minute to help you feel better?"  The author gave an example of getting his car washed.

So on this December 31, 2011 morning I took my car to the car wash.  Not a big deal but ...check this out!

My 2000 Lexus looked almost brand new!  And it worked as I did one thing to take care of myself right now.  The inside is clean and I feel better driving it.

And since I've changed my perspective as I've been counting my everyday blessings, I even noticed the beautiful waterfall at the car wash.  Go figure ...

There's beauty all around us.  We just have to take the time to notice.

Let me ask you the question.

What one simple thing could you do right now to take care of yourself?

Blessings and love,

  1. Woo hoo! My hubby has been cleaning my van for the last few days now. It is amazing how much junk is collected in a car! In dreams, your car represents your life. How important it is to keep your life uncluttered and clean! It keeps you happy to take the paths God gives you. We can both go back to work Monday refreshed and ready to go!

  3. Debbie,
I love the way you always remain positive. There is a book a friend recommended me to read called "Secrets". You should take a look at it if you have not already. Thanks for being a friend. Have a Happy New Year!!!!

  4. Looking good...I had a Lexus for about 5 years before we sold it and bought a Camry. I regretted that for a LONG time, haha...It's a wonderful car. ENJOY yours. It is funny isn't it how the simplest thing can do so much to lift our spirits sometimes. I think the best thing I can do for me in 2012 is to fix these knees...just have to get myself mentally ready I think. Happy New Year to you Debbie, and may the Lord richly bless you in the coming year with all of His very best. HUGS

  6. Might be simple to visit blogging friends like you but that's how I get re-charged (another way)spiritually just like after reading this post. Your car still looks awesome! We just traded in our car yesterday for a new one and we didn't even drive it anywhere yesterday until today. I'm just grateful we have this blessing and I know your car might be old, but that means it had given much service to you as much as you had taken good care of it as a good steward. Happy New Year! God bless sister.

  7. I an so thankful for your new tires and breaks! One thing I could do right now to take care of myself is to get to bed. But, with it being New Year's Eve and only 11:50p, I suppose I'll wait a bit!

    Happy New Year friend!

  8. Glad you got your brakes fixed...and new tires. We have to keep one of my favorite bloggers safe! =)

I'm going to have to think about what one thing I could do right now to make myself feel better. I've already been to Macy's today and bought myself a new pair of jeans...On sale for only $13.50! Can you believe that? So, I guess I already feel pretty good! lol

    Happy New Year Debbie!
