Letting Go of Worry

FaithBarista_Jam
It's time for another Faith Barista Jam!  This week the topic that Bonnie of Faith Barista chose is:

Letting Go of Worry

Hmm ...did somebody tell Bonnie that my theme for 2010 is ...trust and obey?

As many of you know, I struggle with worry.  All of the 'what ifs' and 'what's going to happen now' and 'what am I going to do if'.  I think you get the general idea.

But we are told in Scripture that we are not to worry.  If we trust God, we will be provided for.  Now provided for doesn't necessarily mean all of our wants.  It means our needs.  And who better to know our needs than the God who created us and sees everything that impacts us.

I love how God uses simple illustrations for me to learn important spiritual truths.  As I was sitting on the patio this morning having my quiet time, I noticed many hummingbirds.  They were looking for breakfast.  It's so fun to watch them as their wings flap so quickly.  I found this short video on YouTube to illustrate.

I don't think the hummingbirds wake up thinking 'oh where will we get our food for today' or 'if we can't find food we may die'.  They simply go about their business for this day.

The reality is that if I trust God and believe His Word, I can ...let go of worry.

  1. I think worry is a struggle for all of us. I was connected to Isaiah 41:1 this weekend in a neat way. The speaker said, "We all know 911 is the emergency number. Well, 411 is the emergency spiritual number - (Isaiah) 41:1 (0). You can't forget that!

I have an uplifting video posted right now of 1300 young people celebrating the resurrection. That video takes my mind off of worry!

    Great post.

  2. Yes, I do want more hope,
joy and peace. I know all
of us do. Life can be a
    real struggle but Jesus is
in the midst of it with us.
    Thanks for the encouragement
    this morning.

    Love,

  4. I'm the queen of worry and there are days when that knot won't leave my stomach - and sadly, the worry is over things that are usually ok in the end or eventually work themselves out. Great post and thank you for the gentle reminder to give "it" all to Him and TRUST.

  5. What a blessing to see the hummingbirds and just see His creation...that alone brings peace.
Yes, I need to lay down the worrying...which usually attacks me in the night.
I have been reading from John Piper at night and it seems to help quiet those attacks.
Blessings and letting go of worry also!

  6. So true. Worry is something I have to overcome almost daily. I forgot all about the link up today. I have now put a reminder in my calendar for next week! Blessings!

  7. Great post! Worrying constantly is also a weakness of mine - but God faithfully and continually brings me to a place of peace and stillness - where even though I have a lot on my plate, I don't worry. Instead I have peace. Worrying about things doesn't really change anything.I love the verse you posted from Isaiah!

Hope you have a worry-free week this week! Much love! =)

  8. Worry.....whew...that is a biggie! I once wrote in the front of my Bible:

"If you are going to pray, do NOT worry! If you are going to worry, do NOT pray!"

When we worry we take it back from GOD...we are getting into GODS business and we certainly have no business doing that! I continually have to remind myself to leave it at the feet of JESUS...HE Is more than capable!

  10. Oh Debbie I think soo many of us can idenify with this post. Worry is at one time or another a BIG problem for us all if we are honest. I have a medical problem with my recent condition (I will post on this later if I get the chance) and I worked myself into a real state yesterday. Our finances continue to be a struggle. My kids struggle as well with theirs. My mom has had a stroke and the impovement is slow. SIGH....But I do tend to always come back to the same thing....either I trust Him or I don't. And I am chosing to trust Him. Life is hard ALOT of the time. Posts like these are great reminders of what to do and where to go when we find ourselves in these situations. HUGS, Debbie

  11. Worry - ugh! I try to relax, knowing that God has it all under control, but sometimes, worry gets the best of me, too. Right now my "worry" is when will I have time to pack? Will I get it all done? When will I have time to write another blog devotional? Will I have the courage to ask for the day off from work tomorrow so I have more time? Ahhhh! I just need to breathe...and let God be God.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  12. Debbie,
I have really enjoyed "trust and obey" being your theme this year because I am always refreshed by it myself! Worrying is definitely one of my strongholds that I would love to get rid of. And trusting and obeying is such an antidote for worry.

I was just reading Isaiah 30:15 about an hour ago. Guess it's meant for me at this time.

Thanks for your continued prayers for me as I grieve. You are so precious.

    Blessings,
    Lisa

  13. Debbie, I confess I am prone to a bit of worry at times. My husband often says I worry if I have nothing to worry about! LOL

With the Lord's help, I am improving more and more...

    Thanks for a beautiful reminder...

    Bless you so much...

  14. I think I could hear TRUST & OBEY 10 times every day... it's for me too, and it seems on some days that 10 times a day is exactly what I need! So... this reminder is already #6 or 7 for today!! Thanks Debbie... we're all in this together, and worry comes much more easily than trusting on some days.... BUT... He has promised to be more than enough for all that we need.

    Love you!

  15. Catching simple illustrations takes a "faith seeking" eye! Thanks for a refreshing mocha shot of encouragement today, Debbie! I want to fly too:).

  16. I wrote a devotional on this topic. There's a preacher on TV who's been preaching on fear and worry the past few weeks - I'm learning so much! Like we'll either have faith or fear. I'm leaning towards faith...

  17. Hi, Debbie
Good post today. Here is a thought on worry, that has caused me to stop and reconsider where my "head" was:

Worry is not just a lack of trust in God's provision. It is choosing to doubt Him instead of choosing to trust him. Yikes! We sure never mean to do that, do we? But sometimes we drift into it. Thanks for the good reminders. ....Marsha Y.

  19. My mantra is "let go and let God". I do so much better when I keep this in the forefront of my mind and stop the worry or what if's.

  20. I think Warren's right--we all struggle with worry. Why else would we need scripture to set us straight?! ;-)

And to GypsyHeart, I can remember the first time I ever heard someone tell me "To Let Go and Let God." I had no clear understanding of how one would do that. The man who told me this was a former teacher of my second husband; he'd just died, and for some reason I was drawn to visit this man. Perhaps he'd sent a sympathy card and an issued an invite if I were ever in town again. It's been so long, I can't recall that detail. But I do recall his words, and that it took me a long time to do this letting go. But I did eventually. I can still hear this man tell me these words in his office at the college. So I must still need to be reminded of the message. And that just takes me back to Warren's words, that we all struggle with worry. Letting go is part of the solution.

Thanks for this message, Debbie. It's a good one to be reminded of any time.
