Friday Photo Flashback ~ 1953

Friday Photo Flashback
It's time for another Friday Photo Flashback when I link up with Alicia of More Than Words.

Dig out those pre-digital camera photos and start your engines ...scanning!

You're going to get two pictures for the price of one.  This photo was taken during my first year which would have been 1953.  Yes, you read that correctly!

I was born February 1, 1953.  I cannot lie fib since I have way too many high school friends on Facebook.

I think my parents liked to take many photos.  Here I am laughing at another photo of ...ME!

I was definitely a daddy's girl.  I opened the month of February with my birthday and my dad ended the month; February 28th.  I guess I'm not counting Leap Year.

Here's my dad barbecuing in the backyard.  Somehow my mom always claimed she didn't have the barbecue gene so my dad gladly took over.

Dad also had a ritual of making the family Sunday morning breakfast consisting of bacon, eggs, toast and OJ.  And we used to always sit down at the table together saying grace in Norwegian.

My mom created this needlepoint for me to always remember our prayer.

I'll be unpacking boxes tomorrow to locate more photos to share on Sunday for Father's Day.

Blessings and love,

  1. We said that prayer at every meal. Did you? My children have all had to learn it but since they don't use it regularly, they mostly don't remember it. Did you ever go someplace where they sang the prayer to the tune of the Doxology?
Maybe we should have tried that at Denny's :)

  7. Oh what fun Debbie.. I love these pics! And the needlepoint prayer... a treasure!

We also prayed in Norwegian for the meals.. I can't spell it right, but it was:

Chara Gud vil sing da maten
yas anam, amen! ... i think!! :) that sure doesn't look right though.

    Still praying, for today...

    Love you!

  9. I am a Daddy's girl too! And, we had a girl from The Netherlands live with us for a year and she gave us a needlepoint of The Lord's Prayer, in Flemish. It is beautiful.

  12. I have a picture of Sonja and me and our dad barbecuing hot dogs on the beach, reminded me of your dad here, so cute! We barbecue as often as we can, but I think I actually took the reins a looong time ago...when we were first married the 100% charcoal (steaks were they?) we crunched after my husband was intently talking and "barbecuing" at the same time to some particularly special guests...
    vidunderlig dag Debbie! Love you!

My hubby's dad was also born Feb 28 :o) I also happily give over the grilling to my hubby...it is always so nice when it's grilling time :o)

That is also a great tradition of your dad's breakfast-making :o) And how special to have your mom's needlepoint of the prayer in Norwegian!
