Missing Mom

Five years ago today, I received the dreaded phone call. My mom had died. She was 75 years old but in her last years had suffered considerably with pain. I had been preparing for that day but of course, when it happened ...I cried and cried.

I was actually the last person she spoke a word to the night before. My dad held the phone up to her ear and I told her I loved her. She whispered back to me that she loved me too. My father told me she became so weak and those were the last words she spoke.

My mom and dad always held hands when they went to sleep at night. It was the same that last night. But when my dad awakened, my mom was already gone. She had died in her sleep. I was grateful that she didn't have to be rushed to the hospital on life support as she didn't want to go through all that.

Susan of This Day posted this video one Saturday and I added it to my favorites on YouTube. It reminded me of my parents.

Did they have a perfect marriage? No. But I doubt there's such a thing.

Mom and Dad met when they were teenagers and were married for more than 50 years. And there was never a doubt that ...they loved one another.

I'm so thankful that my mom loved the Lord. I know that one day soon I will see her again in heaven. We'll have lots of catching up to do. :)

Blessings,

  4. Oh Dear Friend, You gave such a loving tribute to your mom. We are never prepared for our dear ones leaving us. This song reminded me of my grandparents. My grandpa passed a few short months shy of their 70th anniversary. I sorely miss them but will be glad to see them in heaven. Like you said, we have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for sharing and for the shout out. Blessings, SusanD

  5. Debbie, What a beautiful love story your parents shared, how blessed they were. I have lost my beloved Grandmother and my favorite Aunt so I can relate in a way. Not the same I know, but it is hard. I love to think of them already there, waiting for all of us to join them. How wonderous it is to KNOW that it really isn't the end and we will talk to them and hug them again. Hugs to you, Debbie

  10. The tears gently rolled down my cheeks through this entire posting and through the video and song. My friend our experiences with our parents are so very very similar. My mom last my dad in 1999 at age 74 and it will be five years this Dec. 10 when my mom passed away at age 77. Both were at home...both were childhood sweethearts...both married for over 50 years and both loved each other so very very much.

This is such a beautiful story and post. My heart weeps with you in missing those precious times with your mom as I feel that way too...we were so very best of friends as with my dad too.

Yes dear friend, you and I will have lots of catching up to do when we see our loved ones again in heaven.

God bless you & Big Hugs,
    Alleluiabelle

  15. oh boy this one does it for me! We (Sonja and I) are a couple of years ahead of you with our mom going to Heaven first. I remember a visit that we sat on their porch swing one night and cried....I even wrote a poem called "we cried because we knew".....we knew they were getting older and we knew we'd lose them one day, it just all came out....on that swing....that night. You put it all so beautifully in your post and I too look forward beyong words to seeing them both again. Good grief Debbie, you better hug yourself huge from me today.

My hubby and I go to bed holding hands too so that touched my heart as it's the way I'd like to go...quietly in my sleep holding his hand and wake holding Jesus' hand in Glory.

I love you and my prayers are with you dear sister.
