Thankful Thursday - Words of Comfort

October is breast cancer awareness month. As far as I knew, there had been no history of breast cancer in my family ...until my aunt was diagnosed this past month. She had her surgery less than two weeks ago and thankfully is doing well and recuperating nicely.

I spoke with her yesterday and she shared the words to a song written by Gloria Gaither that had provided such comfort to her.

When I saw what lay before me, Lord, I cried, what will I do?
I thought He would just remove it, but He gently led me through.
Without fire there's no refining; without pain, no relief.
Without flood there's no rescue; without testing, no belief.
Through the fire, through the flood; through the water,
Through the blood, through the dry and barren places,
Through life's dense and maddening mazes;
Through the pain and through the glory,
"Through" will always tell the story of a God
Whose power and mercy will not fail to take us through.

On this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for words of comfort. They may come through the lyrics of a song, a poem or a story. They may be words of comfort offered by a friend. Or the words of a Psalm. Or a prayer.

It can be hard to understand all of the "whys" in life. Despite our personal struggles and challenges in life, we can make the choice to focus on what we are thankful for.

What about you? Is there a song, a poem or a verse that provides you with comfort?

  2. Debbie that was just precious. I had honestly not heard of it before.

There are many Psalms that I cling to but one of my favorite scripture verses is Isa 41:10 "do not be discouraged or dismayed for I am the Lord your God and I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" .... I just always visualize myself in His hand and I'm comforted.

Blessings to you this evening, sweet friend.

I am a registered mammographer and have done many needle biopsies, not since I have had 4 kids but I do keep up my license and there have been patients I know that have died and those who have survived. Dodie Osteen has a book healed of cancer try to get that for your relative and if you can't I can tell you how---JoelOsteenministries.com

  6. Hi Debbie!!

I'm so glad you stopped by and visited me yesterday!! I love meeting new people!! It still amazes me (though I don't know why) how God is using the internet to bring people together.

I have lost many that I love due to cancer, and I wish I had known the words of this song to bring them some comfort.

Blessings to your aunt for a full recovery!

  9. My Grandma Joy taught me how to tie a song to just about any circumstance in life. While going thru her chemo and radiation treatments I would hear playing the piano many a morning. She always played "When We All Get To Heaven" for my Grandfather and then after her passing, I noticed her hymn book opened to "Till The Storm Passes By." I cried like a newborn baby, because Christ did hold her fast and let her stand till the storm passed by.
All praise, glory and honor unto HIM!!!!

P.S. Thanks for dropping by our Front Porch. We are so excited to be visiting Dallas again!!
